Translating the NX difficulties (stars & skulls to numerics)

Maybe it works for beginners, but I think the symbol system is leaving most of long term players out in the cold, so I'm going to compile a list of the CZ/NMs from NX into a numeric songlist.

I think the ratio of the Normals/Hards/Freestyles, like usual, is close to accurate, but the CZs/NMs are always what get debated the most, so I'll make them my focus.

I haven't played everything yet, mostly not the anothers and hidden WT charts, but I'll rate what I can. Anyone who wants to chime in with a chart they've played that isn't listed, feel free.

You know, there's plenty better ways of calling someone an idiot without doing it flat out with flaming.

Some songs I think are just relative to how well you can do them. Some people have craploads of problems doing triples but runs are easy as piss. Sometimes, vice versa.

Then again, I never trusted Pump's rating system to bring with.

Yeah, being a total noob to PIU, i've passed Winter CZ, which is a 16, consistently, yet I still struggle with Final Audition 3 CZ, which is a 13.

I guess this kinda helps, I never understood the Star/Skull system to begin with.

Gun Rock is easy apart from the ending. Not even a little difficult. Just plain easy. The ending is so completely stupid that it jacks the difficulty up to Dignity's level, but it's still not that hard to pass.

Strange, considering that Winter's streams are harder and crazier than FA3's. Guess it happens sometimes.

Normally, songs rated with skulls in NX were +Lv15 in Zero / Exceed. Slam and Witch Doctor are rated with 1 skull, to put a simple example.

Stars would be 7-14 and... well, no need to explain the rest.

You're a bit different from most people, since it seems your ability to drill may be stronger than your ability to twist.

I definitely A'd FA3 CZ long before I managed to get an A on Winter CZ... and drills are difficult for many low-level players, but... players all have different strengths and weaknesses.

I wish people would stop trying to pretend there's a direct correlation with the two level systems and realize that they changed the system for a REASON. They didn't just get rid of numbers because they thought it'd be cute to throw math games into calculating Pump levels. It's meant as a freaking overhaul of the level system.

Read what I added to the wiki article:

A completely new difficulty system consisting of stars, skulls, or question marks. There are eight slots for either stars or skulls; one star is equivalent to two difficulty points on the Exceed/Zero scale (half-stars equal one point and seven stars is the maximum amount seen for any song), and skulls, while widely believed to roughly represent one difficulty point above 15 or 16, is in actuality a new scale with all songs re-evaluated and re-rated, giving the songs new ratings which don't necessarily correlate with ratings of past mixes. A "????????" rating is given to songs that are "beyond the charts" (such as Chimera or Final Audition Episode 2-2 Nightmare - although both have been A'ed by expert players), gimmick charts that are meant to be impossible for one player (FAE2-2 Another Nightmare, Bee Another Nightmare, Chimera Another Nightmare), or charts that are meant for two players at the same time (LIADZ and LIADZ2 Another Nightmare).

FAE2-2 Another Nightmare is not impossible for one person. It's about as impossible as Dignity Nightmare was when Exceed came out or as impossible as Chimera Nightmare when vids were being tossed around of NX prior to release. Bee [A]NM and Chimera [A]NM are clearly impossible for one person, but I've analyzed FAE2-2 [A]NM and it all seems completely plausable.

I completely agree, however I believe you completely forgot about how possible Shake It Up [A]NM is for one person. It's soOo easy.

If you're referring to the beta steps, there is nothing wrong with them. A truly skilled player would have no trouble no bar'ing it.
