Default College food

I have a slight problem. Every cafeteria on campus seems to make me sick ;_; Unless I developed lactose intolerance the day I moved in, something about the food here is not agreeing with me. It's very hard to make a filling meal here unless you eat the cafeteria food entrees so I'm a bit stuck.

I'm good with the small meal plan (4-5 small meals a day) so I'm trying that, but in the meantime, I need some suggestions. What are some healthy snack foods I can supplement my cereal and salads with? I'm not a huge sandwich person and I don't like microwave meals so I have no idea what to do in order to not be hungry here.

Ideas, thoughts, mockery of my weak stomach?

Yogurt, jello and maybe some fruit. I'm now eating alot of yogurt after breakfast and it sorta fills me up until lunch. Try that for a day hun and see what happens.

I live off of fast food saddly. Subway, Chinese Food (awesome lunch special for only 4.65), and a local pizza place. Just rotate through out the week. Yogurt and sandwiches for snack food. Gotta get off campus and get a good meal.

If microwaves aren't your thing, maybe you should try out a toaster oven?

It works wonders for me, heat anything up in that badboy

when you say "microwaveable meal" i am assuming you mean like TV dinners and hungry man? if so, then ramen and easy mac are both awesome microwave meals. but if you mean you don'e like microwaves in general, slimfast is a great protein and calorie supply. it is my breakfast every morning here at college. and it tastes like a chocolate milkshake too =D

I'm very partial to oatmeal and yogurt :3
maybe smoothies or something (blenders are really good for making a filling meal that will be beneficial and not shitty for you)

I'm not going to be much help. I absolutely adore fruit and could eat it all the time (and I do) without getting bored of it.

Yeah, I don't like canned soup or ramen, it's so salty I almost gag. Not a big mac and cheese person, either. I will look into slimfast next time I go to the off-campus grocery store.

Oatmeal, fuck, thanks ruri. I forgot all about oatmeal, I totally love apple cinnamon oatmeal.

Oh my god me too :3

I am also partial to the maple & brown sugar~~

I used to live off of oatmeal and strawberry yogurt when I was at girl scout camp. The food there would absolutely kill me.

I carry a pack of tortillas on me for snack food. Just grab one and nosh anytime you need something small (and I know some places make flavored tortillas, so look into that.)

In High School, I'd stop off at a grocery store in the morning and pick up a loaf of french bread or something and just eat that throughout the day. Usually works.

There's some very delicious varieties of granola bars these days too.

Assuming you're in the dorms, it'd ask around about a kitchenette. Several dorms have some sort of kitchen that can be used by students. I know when I got really sick of cafeteria food, I borrowed a pot or two, grabbed the keys to the dorm kitchenette from the RA, and made some REAL food for myself.

If that's not possible, I recommend granola bars and raisins. I must have eaten five pounds of raisins during my college career. Fruit is good too, if you have somewhere to store it. Bananas are the best. ^_^

i assume you have a fridge in your dorm.

get a cheap rice cooker that can also steam veggies.

rice + steamed snow/snap peas + steamed bamboo + curry sauce (or any sauce) + the precooked perdue chicken stuff = WIN

other stuff to get that's premade... blocks of swiss or sharp cheddar cheese, cereal, easy mac (i prefer the annie's brand)

another very good and necessary staple is (organic) PB&J on whole grain bread

We can't have anything with an exposed heating element (such as a hot plate, George Foreman grill, or cooker of any kind) in the dorms. I'd have to go to the kitchenette every time to use it, and it's not really on the way (3 floors down, usually kind of busy). Once I find a store around here that sells wheat bread I will be all up in the chunky peanut butter sandwiches (campus stores only sell white, yuck).

Get ramen as your base food, with other cheap foods for nutrients.

10-cent meals ftw.
