Default does anyone read food nutritional labels

I actually check the nutritional facts/stats for *every* fast food place I eat at if possible, and if not possible I check them at home before I go there lol (only once, i memorize what I usually get's facts)

and as for shopping, etc. i make sure to not buy *anything* with trans fats in it, only monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fats with peanuts and salmon (most other mono/poly kinds are worse for you), etc.

try to keep my saturated fat under 60-70% a day, my main fat under 60-80% a day, don't care about cholesterol because i eat almost nothing that has it, and sodium under 100% of the daily value.

I also try to get 100% of vitamins A, B6,B12, C, D, E, niacin, calcium, etc.

I also won't drink energy drinks because the shit in them is basically poison for me (i have an ephinephrine overdose in me constantly), and I rarely drink sodas or eat out, and I try to get a jamba juice (the 5 fruit a day kind) or 2 fruits in me a day.

I also eat one soup with vegetables in it every other day at least.

Sooo.... yeah. lol sounds a bit obsessive but it's why I can take fascination maxx 40+ times in a row and not be tired lol (and that's with heart problems)

I usually don't read most food nutrition labels. I'm guilty of that. I tend to try to cook most of my own food though and avoid eating too many processed foods.

You should read the ingredient labels on store ice cream. There are ingredients only a chemist could love.

I only watch my calorie intake. I try to keep it lower than 1200. Sometimes I do it, sometimes i don't. I'm not too obsessive over it.

I have this habit of being deathly afraid of anything with the words "high fructose corn syrup" in it. Ironically enough, I really, really love Mountain Dew. This makes for some odd self-loathing.

I've checked nutrition labels for years, though, ever since my mother left her college nutrition book out one time and I spent all of an afternoon looking through it. I mainly watch fat intake, calories as a lesser threat. (Calories I can deal with, though, given my random DDR benders helping to take those off.)

Yeah but thats apart of my plan to lose weight. I'm not fat or anything.. I just want to lose more weight. I lost 20 pounds playing DDR now.. So if I lower how much I eat, and keep playing DDR=More weight loss!

Not eating and more exercise wont make you any thinner.

You actually might get fatter if you suddenly stop eating so quickly.
Your body will still crave food, and turn muscle into fat, so then your body can much on the fat. (decribing it in a not so professional manner)

The best thing you could do is eat the same amount of food, just healthier.

like a previous post, i too am afraid of High Fructose Corn Syrup. Don't know why, i was just told it was bad. Also, anything with "Partially Hydrogenated" anything, and when shopping for bread or pasta, I make sure it says whole wheat flour as opposed to enriched, multi-grain, or something to that effect. Its whole wheat or nothing.

I ignore sodium and cholesterol, and calories too, although thats probably the one i should be looking out for the most...

I'm weird with my diet. I really, really would like to keep a healthy diet and I do try- I buy healthy cereals, I love fresh fruits and vegetables, and I try to drink healthy beverages (Propel, Juicy Juice, low-fat milk) but I do have my moments each day with stuff I regret reading the label on. I'm not a calorie counter and I'm not going for weight loss, but I really do like reading the labels and keeping track of my vitamin intake, etc.

I'm trying to be more healthy in general, now. Student red center sounds really nice about now, and believe it or not there's a pretty high amount of not-shit-for-you food on-campus for my meal plan. I mostly live off of cereal and fruit snacks though, so no real worries.

Try Splenda? Most of my family is diabetic, and once you learn how to adjust sugar-to-Splenda ratios, that shit is pretty awesome.

If you want cancer, sure

splenda is aspartamane, which has been basically proven to cause cancer if taken even in small amounts.

As a side note to everyone, *NEVER* buy or eat anything that says it's "sugar-free". It has aspartamane sweetner in it, which is basically over 10,000x sweeter than sugar, and IS toxic to your body in some ways, far more than normal sugar.

and no, I am not exaggerating this.

Totally true; people going on "diets" are only fucking themselves up. Studies also show that being "fat" is not always "unhealthy", just as being "skinny" is not always "healthy".

The thing that depends on your health is how much of your skinniness or your fatness is actual *fat*.

People who are body builders are in great shape but technically they are "fat", it's just with muscle. People can be skinny too and have a lot of body fat, but they just don't notice it.

Basically if you're fat, just exercise a lot, tone down your eating SOME but get at least 3,000 calories a day in, after a year, shorten that down to about 2,500 a day, etc.

you'll turn your flab into muscle, WAY faster than a skinny person could. Hell, some of the best DDR players weigh over 250, easily.

With ice cream and soups and a lot of stuff, try to buy the "healthy choice" brand. They generally have far less fat and sodium in their food than other brands, and taste *just* as good.

Also try to go for organic stuff like organic pizza, ice cream, orange juice, etc. it may taste a slight bit odd in some cases, but in others it actually tastes better, trust me, and it's 500x better for you.

In terms of fish, salmon is generally the best, but make sure that it says it's *wild* salmon, not *farmed* salmon. Gorton's is probably a great brand for this; they're near the top of the "health conscious" fish industry.

I don't really pay attention to ingredients as much as I do the nutrional stats themselves, i.e. sodium, saturated fat, percentages, so on.

Cancer, hm. My dad is a doctor, and the Cleveland Clinic even sponsors Splenda-use for their diabetic patients. I don't really buy into the whole artificial sweetener to human cancer thing; lots of other shit will kill you quicker. Being alive causes cancer, hah. And what affects rats and lab animals won't always harm humans anyway.

According to wikipedia, Splenda isn't aspartamane, and your numbers are VERY off. It does mention rat cancer, but meh, I have other worries.
