Default Favorite Sushi!

I'm gonna be going with my family to a sushi bar next week. Sadly, they don't serve hand rolls, so I know nothing on the menu except for the egg type...

Recommendations anyone? I'm open to try just about anything.

Any kind, Sushi is awesome. Ones without krab meat(a.k.a. fake crab). Though I doubt a sushi bar would have that crap. :P

You can't go wrong with the all around awesome California Roll. If they have those at sushi bars...

Dunno, cause I've never been to sushi bar.

Durr...California rolls have fake crab meat in them. I don't understand your post.

Really some of the best sushi is salmon and tuna nigiri. If you prefer rolls, some sort of shrimp tempura or crunch roll is equally awesome. Basically with sushi you should just go in and order whatever you think looks good. 99% of the time it tastes just as good.

You mean you can't get California Rolls with REAL crab meat? I should've asked my brother, he loves sushi.

None of my post I make in the middle of the night make sense.

I love sushi that has a lot of meat in whatever they're selling - generally hate the meat to rice ratio... BUT, I've always been partial to salmon rolls - yes they're very common but oh so filling

I also recommend people go to the sushi bars in Tsukiji, Japan (home to the world's largest fish market). There are a couple near the auctions that have The. Best. Sushi you'll ever have. Best $50 you'll ever spend (that price is for the bigger sets. The set I bought was $20).

I always prefer Inari Sushi.

No fish or other meat, just rice with chopped vegetables in a fried tofu wrapper

By the way. A few things for people new to sushi:

1: It is traditional to eat sushi with your hands, not chopsticks, or whatever else.
2: It is also traditonal to eat a piece of sushi in one bite. Put it down all at once.
3: Sushi refers to the rice not whatever else most people think it is. Sushi is not raw fish, it's sushi rice. RICE!

Hahaha I eat sushi the wrong way then. But seriously, I don't feel like grabbing food with my hands in a restaurant, and I certainly don't feel like chewing a fat lump of food in my mouth.

Also, if you don't like the raw stuff, you can try an ungai (eel) nigiri. It's really flavorful and goes great with the rice.

I thought you've never been to a sushi bar?

Firstly, I've never seen anyone in America eat with thier hands and secondly, with Americanized sushi most of the larger rolls are too big to eat in one bite. I usually eat them in two.

No, I haven't been to a sushi bar, but I go places with sushi. I've also been to a few sushi parties.

I know all that because I love to watch the Food Network. I'm pretty knowledgable on food stuffs. Sushi is one of my weak points, but I know that in Japan what I said is tradition. I could really care less how you eat it. After all normac, like you said this is America... Well, for some people at least. I'm just kinda being a traditionalist, and I want people to know how it's supossed to be. I don't care if they follow it.

Just don't go eating sushi with a fork, and knife. That's just plain wrong!

Oh god... I went to Seattle, WA, and there was this one sushi restaurant called Todai. It's got like 800 different kinds of sushi, and every one I tried was great. That was the best sushi restaurant I've ever visited. Sushi is good if there's a variety. The same type can get boring.

btw raw fish = sashimi if anyone still thinks sushi is raw fish.

Isn't Todai the Japanese buffet place? I dunno, i've been there before, and the pieces they served look awfully small...

I'm more interested in the nigiri type. It's supposed to be the king of sushi.

Yeah, its pieces are small, but it's a buffet, so you can take as much as you like for a fixed price.

Shrimp Tempura and Unagi (Eel)

It's my girlfriends favorite and now my favorite sushi to eat. Try them both.
