You could do a LOT worse than Taco Bell tacos (aside from their shitty authenticity), trust me.

On a side note:

Damnit mexicans, why is it that every time I see your Hugo Chavez avatar, I keep thinking it's Rerun!?

If you were eating so much KFC a day that your trans fat intake was disgusting, well, you had it coming; your diet is fucking fast food chicken. I've almost completely gone off of fast food and have been living off of wheat breads, peanut butter, and lots of cereal and some light turkey slices. I'm not at huge risk for trans fat problems, it's just not a huge part of my diet.

Nutrition is fascinating to me, and yeah, all fats are a big problem. The more artificial something is the more dangerous it is, in general. I like how the US went from naturally grown->chemically pumped up 'better' products-> pricey free-range/organics now. For the meats I still think we need chemical intervention as far as medicines for the cows, but not as heavily as some places go now. Produce, fuck, leave them alone. There are safer ways to yield better crops. Now we have a trans fat problem because the average American diet barely includes real food.

If I had an ideal world, I'd be buying organic produce, more natural white meats, lots of lesser-processed grains and breads and simple dairy. That concept doesn't work in college so I'm kind of stuck making due.
This is something that I have been watching heavily and have been getting more paranoid about due to the fact that my weight standards are rediculously BS for my height for my job. (Minimium weight 117 pounds, Maximium weight 165 pounds for 5'6 person in the Marines. I am currently at 149 pounds but have been as low as 125 prior to my deployment.) From what I've seen despite the fact that the FDA made it mandatory to list that information on food there are companies that have been able to stall that mandate. The only way to truly be safe on this is to go with companies that have been confirmed as having low or no trans fat in their food at all.

I will also state that I heard about this issue a few months ago with KFC and it was cause of this that I stopped eating there alltogether. Lying about nutritional facts to me is not cool and also kills customer trust in the product.

It's funny to see how so many fast food businesses advertise their food as "TRANS FAT FREE" but they never mention a word about other fats such as saturated fat. And the presence of trans fat when a business claims it doesn't have any is disturbing.

Trans fat increases LDL (low density lipoprotein) and reduces HDL (high density lipoprotein). LDLs will put lipids into the blood stream while HDL takes it to the liver for removal from the body.
Saturated fat is, I guess, OK in moderation, as it increases LDL and HDL at the same time.

I somewhat do not find it surprising that KFC still uses trans fat. It's even getting Asians in the far east fat!

so KFC is gonna use healthier oils and such. or rather, not trans fat. yet three years later their new recipe is going to be lauded after scientific research finds something else wrong in their ingredients...

It's all basic advertisement, every product I see now has the no trans fat symbol and fast-foods are trying to make it healthier for customers.

This whole media scare is getting out of hand, a ban on tacos? What in the fuck?

Everyone should know this philosophical line by now "Good things in life are either illegal, immoral or fattens you." There's just no denying it.

I do agree that it's a good idea for the restaurants to remove the trans fats, but when people start avoiding food they used to love since they contain lalala, that's not enjoying life at all. Basically banning yourself for what is given, free.

People mostly eat eat eat, they look at the calories guide [Need at least 2000] and they don't exercise. Result: They fatten up, then blame the restaurants for offering such good, fattening food. There's nothing wrong in taking a burger or a taco and then burning it with some exercise, not at all. You get the right amount of cals to burn and you feel energized about it after.

But yeah, always remember that red meat CAN slow you down. Doesn't mean it's all bad, what with all the proteins in it that helps build muscle and repair wounds.

Just be regular, don't go crazy about it and be reasonable. People are missing the most important factor: exercise. I see commercials for food everywhere, but rarely see at least one that tells you to get damn active in order to be on tip-top shape. If you can't cut your schedule with exercise, drop the fork and go veggie, because sitting around all day is burning not even half of daily dose of food.
