The addition of salt has solid science behind it - salt contains ions and ions perk up your tongue, so no wonder why salt makes things taste nicer.

I have a fantastic peppercorn steak sauce that I like to add to bland things-- breads, crackers, fruit, potatoes, etc-- in addition to the obvious.
I also like to play with texture, so I grate cheeses onto everything. With hot things, I grate in different sizes so that the cheese melts at different times, which feels great and further incorporates the cheese into the dish. My favourite snack used to be extremely fine parmesan cheese (think cocaine) on top of strawberries. It would simultaneously dry out and moisten my mouth, which is wicked neat.
I also like using cottage cheese as a gravy, so it makes things like potatoes, steak, fries, hamburgers, fruit, much more interesting.
