None of my friends have swapmagic or codebreakers.
I'm saying that I dont want to pay any more money then I will for beatmania and the controller ($45 shipping...$70-something controller, then $70-something for a game) it all really adds up.
I don't want to pay $100's of dollars just so i can play the games, ontop of the hundreds games and controller Quote:

Maybe the best thing to do is to check out some simulators beforehand so you can get an idea of the game and learn to play before considering spending any money on playing on the PS2 versions.
A simulator is a fan-made program that you can use to play Beatmania on your PC. You can even use your normal qwerty keyboard and download some song packs from various places for free, so it is a great way to introduce yourself to the game with no costs.
Check out the IIDX Simulation sub-forum where you can read more about it and find all the necessary download links etc: beatmania - IIDX - Simulation - Bemanistyle [dot] com Forums
Hope this helps man. | I know what you're saying but I can play 20 steps on stepmania, 13's on ITG single, and 10's on double, I can play 10's on 8 buttons on DJ Max, I went from beginner to expert on guitar hero in about 4 hours, and I've only played rock band drums for 2 hours but i can do hard.
I'm fairly adept to rythem games and don't think that the steep curve will be a huge problem for me :P
I've decided that since the shipping cost is so high ($45) that I'm gonna get beatmania 14 and another one(deciding which one) plus the controller after I can finally play jap games >.< Quote:

These sell for virtually cheap nowadays (sub-200 american dollars or even less).
It can play any NTSC/J games (which include all the Japanese ver. BM IIDX games).
Plus, it's 100V-240V 50/60hz so it's autovolt (meaning you don't have to buy a transformer or power converter.........because it works on all voltages and frequencies of electrical sockets).
You can't go wrong there | Looked it up - Price: 217.96 CAD
Thats pretty expensive for just wanting to play 1 game don't you think?
I heard this before but I'm not sure if it's true, can you get a japanese ps3 and itll play all us and japanese games (including ps2 games?) Quote:

Some aspects of it you may not like (esp. the interface)....but it's better than none.
Though you have to be careful cause I'm not sure if they still produce these. | I looked and it's only like 55 songs. I want the japanese games that have 80+ songs per game and they have like 15 different games out (1200+ songs?)
