Music Preview

Okay, How cool would this be!!! What if along with every simfile page there was a link to another preview page to preview the music. This would eliminate the confusion of what version of a song you want.

All you would have to do is upload the music file so the upload page would have something like this

Blah blah blah blah blah...........

Zip file name
<insert simfile name here>
.SM file
<Insert .sm or .dwi file here>
Music file
<MusicName.mp3 or .ogg>

My question would be if this was a ploy to get people to download the MP3 of a particular song rather than go to the length of downloading the simfile of someone just to get a song so you wouldn't have to play it...

I mean I know a good majority of people do that anyways but...

Sounds like an okay idea if it wasn't for that reason, the fact that the database would be overrun with MP3s if they weren't cut or downgraded in quality (such as 30s or 300K max or something) and just kind of an odd thing to ask for when all someone really has to do is go to download and find it themselves...

i think music preview would be good. sample length would be range 12~15 seconds. this is good idea.

Second, this would mean that simfile makers would have to learn to edit music (for the many that don't know how and just take songs from anywhere they can find them).

No, No, No, you're missing the point. This is for those songs in which there are many different songs with the same name, but by different artists. Ie. numa numa. what if someone uploaded the english ver but didn't put that in the title. Then someone would download it expecting to get the romanian ver. Oh great, now he wasted a download and he's going to be considered a moocher for not rating it. I did NOT enjoy downloading 10 files to find the right version of this song I wanted. That's why I came up with this idea.

I'm thinking something like this.
FFR Simfile Database - Max 300 FlashFlashRevolution.com

right under the banner is a player for the song. Only, with here, you won't be able to hear the whole thing, just a certain sample. And NO YOU WON'T HAVE TO LEARN HOW TO EDIT MUSIC.

It's the uploader's responsibility to describe the file

and it's the downloader's responsibility to identify it.

Music preview is a pretty bad idea since it's just a hog to the bandwidth of this site. Also, it just encourages people to download the file with a third party downloader (just like I did with that link with the help of DownloadHelper)

I'd agree if the samples would be 10-15 sec max :P

I was actually on my way to posting a thread requesting this very feature.

I also think this is a good idea. Imagine you're tired of all your sim files and you wanted some new one, but aren't sure if the music is to your tastes or not.

Previewing the music would allow you to decide whether or not you want to download a recently added or unpopular sim.

Given how frequently I run into the "server is too busy, please try later" error page, I am firmly against this idea unless Bemanistyle is able to offer more bandwidth.
