Default OP's locking own threads

Is it a good idea for the original posters to gain the ability to lock their own threads? I just thought of it since it seems to make much sense, but if there's a good reason not to, I'm curious of the reasoning behind it as well.

Or possibly to be able to delete one's own thread post under certain circumstances such as accidental double posting or if they asked a question they found the answer to on their own? *shrug* just a thought.

Hey, let's token whore. Hmmm... let's see, why don't I start 20 threads then delete them, wow!

Obviously the mods would track this, but still... Locking = maybe. Deleting = NO!

When you "delete" a post on vBulletin, the post isn't technically "deleted", it just doesn't show up anymore. Moderators and administrators can still see the original post, however. So, even if it were possible to delete your own thread, we'd still be able to see what you did.

The way Zer0 abuses this feature on VJA, no thanks. It's a great way for someone to be able to say "okay, I'm going to get the last word and the discussion is over now regardless if anybody else wants to add something." It puts someone in complete control of an argument/discussion and it can make things really unfair in that respect.

I vote no.

Seconding rmz due to seeing the same abuse, although a potential idea: being able to "flag" your topic for a lock, maybe? A tag you can turn on which only mods/admins can see, asking for a lock if something goes awry? Sort of like a more controlled version of the proposal.

Third. Not ever implemented for the basis of abuse.

what if you've spent them before you delete the topic? I say no simply for the reason stated earlier, that aomeone can state their opinion and then lock it. i think requesting a lock will suffice for now.

I have seen someone with negative tokens before. I don't think that user lasted much longer here.

Anyway, I agree with what's been said here about the abuse issue. I did like Fletcher's idea when I first read it, but I then realized that the same thing could be done if the OP just sends a PM to a moderator/administrator.
