I bet you're wondering what this has to do with anything? Well, from what I've heard and experienced myself 95% of these stupid ratings come from morons who have been members for only a few days. See, a lot of people probably register just to be fags, and drop bad ratings on people for no reason whatsoever. If you were to make it so that users have to be registered two weeks (maybe more) before rating sims then I imagine this problem would almost entirely disappear. Now, I know how lately people have been all for getting more ratings on their simfiles (including me), but if all my ratings are going to be from idiots who have no idea what they're talking about and are just being jerks then I rather not have any in the first place. IMO, this is a must!
I think it would also be nice if you were to make so that a user MUST download a simfile before rating it (comments are okay, because you may report them). I guarantee they're people who just go around randomly rating simfiles.
Another thing would be to make all rating of 3, and below reportable to the staff.
I am completely sick of all these ratings (whether they be 10's or 1's), and something must be done!

Also, you're correct about how this would dissappate the problem so to say. Most people won't wait two weeks to just give simfiles bad ratings.

Though I've not been hit with much of this myself as of late, I am aware of the problem's prescence and I HAVE noticed that an incredibly large ratio of 1's are indeed placed by members of a three days or less. Two weeks sounds somewhat appropriate, maybe varying in between 10-14 days.
Sulfer, sorry to hear that you're getting rating bombed.

IM me the one's you are particularly proud of, I really do want to find something noteworthy on this site that I didn't hear of long before.
Also in light of this suggestion, I'd like to ask that the minimum amount of ratings needed to show rating on a sim to be lowered from 5 to... 3 or something.

Total Tokens: 34,102,950.08 Donate Tokens | What happened to downing IP ranges of idiots that did this? I thought that was a possibility past having to enforce a rule of 'two weeks to rate something'.
Heck, what you'd be SMARTER to do is make it to where someone must in fact post something of at least five words long before they are able to rate it period. At least that way things would be able to be considered contentful and would force those that would rather rate a 1 the inability to do so without at least giving some sort of a comment. 'This file really f***ing sucks' would work. Wouldn't be the most constructive comment in the world, but it sure beats having to deal with dumbass 1 ratings for no reason to those that would want actual feedback.
And, guess what, that would solve a LOT of problems in critique. It'd increase the flood to the people and to the staff for 'uncontentful comments and critique' and it would result in FAR less ratings period but you'd get exactly what you would want out of a content filter. Twenty-five character minimum should suffice.
As for ratings being reported to the staff, I cannot and will not agree with that. That is someone's own personal opinion and doesn't necessarily have to be construed as fact. If they have the reasoning to back it up (which this would more than fix) such a technique would not have to be added. If you suck and he proves it that not only makes you look like an idiot for the suggestion but it also shows the staff, at the same time, that you have a sim ready for deletion for being idiotic.
Course I'm not sure if sim moderators do that so often here anymore.

Sulfer's idea is good to an extent; forcing people to wait two weeks will almost entirely stop that, but it also prevents new users that seriously want to rate simfiles that they've played. Restricting them could possibly discourage them from wanting to rate files in the future (then again, it may not). I do think the "3 or lower" rule is going too far. That would scare people into giving higher ratings, even if they really don't like the file.
As for the comment idea, it sounds good as long as people don't start making spam comments in order to give bad ratings. I for one do not want to see a repeat of FFR's simfile database (at least comments are reportable here).
I'm trying to make a compromise between this, but I don't know how well even that would work out. I guess it's up to the mods on how to do it, and determine what will work best.

Honestly, that should've been enacted a LONG time ago. I'd rather read through a bunch of reviews than a bunch of numbers. A number tells me nothing.

I guess it's up to the mods on how to do it, and determine what will work best. | Well, you have the fortune of the fact that the "Songs you have not rated" list now exists, which I think was a suggestion I made some time ago. I'm glad to hear that you desire to rate sims, you're a fluke that I'm glad to have around if that's the case. But hey, you'll have that list that begs for ratings when you're capable of doing it. It may delay or even discourage, but my list of nonrated files is EMPTY, and I like it that way, perhaps some others out there are the same?
Though I feel two weeks is a bit too long. I'm still glad that such a change was made.
