We do offer linking out on all entries uploaded to the database, and while you have to logged in and registered to view them, people using the database are more than welcome to link back to us from their web page for entries. It doesn't solve your problem in the least unless you choose to just upload here and not on your website, but it's all we can really offer for the time being.

We do have a lot going on in the development sense for the site now, and if it comes up while we're revamping things and we figure out a way to regulate it that won't add extra work for anyone it is something that we would be willing to add in the future.
Somehow, I think there's a slight misunderstanding here.

It wouldn't change anything about regulating things against policy here as it would go into the DB the same way as uploaded files. The names and artists would still be just as visible then as they are now.

The concept is simply to change the link that ultimately downloads the actual *.zip and nothing else. Which means that it would not alter anything other than the fact that people like myself would only need to update the file that the link points to. The users who downloaded it, how many downloads it got, all of the original description and what-not, all of it would stay the same.

Ultimately this would not change regulating of anything at all. It's the same database with the same records and the same details that are there for all to see. The same details that would show up in the recent simfiles section and the same details that would be searchable in the sims database.

I really don't know a better way to explain how simple it is. But if it's still denied, I understand, but it will probably end in my removal of my works here and making them all exclusive only to my site as the versions here have become a slight to my quality. Not saying like it's a threat or anything, it's just discouraging how much work I have to put into this project and trying to add to the community of files here at the same time is not easy. There's simply so much I need to do beyond keeping pages of this open and updating my website and spending the time to upload sims twice and such. I was also sort of hoping that this concept would make it so that filesize wouldn't be an issue for those who could find stable and reliable hosting.

Please, consider this detailed form of the change, and if it is still denied then I'll not make any more a case of it. I'll probably still hang around and play StepMania techie for the community.

~Peace.

No, we completely understand what you mean in terms of what you want. But by letting people just post links we're losing the ability to limit file size, thus giving people the means to make things that we don't want available through bemanistyle, available. Even though you have legitimate intentions for wanting us to add this, and think that very few people would use it, that doesn't mean that people who have more sinister intentions wouldn't pick up on it being available and start going against policy just to cause trouble. It would just be a lot of work to make it solid, safe and secure for both us and our users.

And I'm sorry that it is such a hassle for you. I understand what you mean by having to upload files multiple times and why you'd want to save time and don't blame you. By not uploading the sims to the database you may be losing some of your exposure, but you're more than free to promote on the forums and even start a detailed thread about your project and website in the community projects forum. If we change our mind on it and do decide to implement the feature I'm sure you'll catch wind of it either on the main page or the forums, at which point I would hope you'd submit your files once again.

Speaking of which, what is with the filesize issue beyond the fact that it would mean that there'd be large files on the database? Seems to me that a file even up to 70mb shouldn't matter as long as your database isn't bogged down with it.

I'm not really worried about my exposure here... and honestly I'll probably just try to update what little I already have here and just leave it at that. But we've get convention gigs and such coming up, to which we're bringing music artists, so I'm not really worried about things of that nature. Though I do put it in my sig and run around the site playing StepMania techie, I'm sure that is doing something here or there.

Anyways, thanks for your time.

Zanaso, if this doesn't happen (which it doesn't look too good right now) you could always link it in the description and upload a blank .zip file. It wouldn't be the same I know, but it WOULD save you time.

That would go against the rules. The only way that we would allow something like that is if you were including a lot of BGVids in your upload, and it brought your upload size above our limits. But then, the images, stepfiles and sound file would still have to fit within the server limits. The BG Vids would be the only things we could allow you to link out.

Thanks for your input, guys. However, Eddie and I have come to an agreement on a temporary fix that I simply have not put into action yet. I don't know if it will be counterproductive, but it happens, that is... it'll happen when I stop being lazy about it.

Very well. As you have apparently found at least a temporary solution, I think this thread is just about dead now.
