I'd like to expand on this a little bit, since there is a bit of merit to this.
Instead of using a thread to do the work that is HIGHLY unorganized and made in such a way that your input can be lost easily, why not make a particular system to keep track of these simfile requests, by data/alpha/user requested/whatever so that people will have their suggestions possibly looked at instead of just scanned over like I'm likely to do looking at a mess of text.
There need be no reward, that could simply be optional, but it would at least be a system helpful in the organization of people wanting whatever file in whatever system/game simmed or made. Maybe go beyond that. Why not game-related things like skins, themes, videos made, graphics made, a plethora of request genres that you can think of?
So, for example, instead of viewing a thread you'd be viewing a page like the simfile database BUT, instead of simfiles, you would be viewing requested sorted by whatever means necessary and searchable in the same way that simfile database is right now. The only real difference I can think of is you'd need a way to subtract the request once the user deems it fit for his/her request being carried out. If it is a simfile to their needs (not necessarily likes) then it would be up to the requester to call the job done.
ADDITIONALLY, and this might be a good spurt for some of those simmers out there, why not have the requester give feedback in kind to the job done? Sort of a rated request system in which a requester would rate the job in terms of how it was done just like they would a simfile. This could be an overall general user rating for his/her requests that he/she has completed. You would not be able to rate them in any other way unless a job was taken care of by that person. Another feather in the cap for a system like this, I'd say, and a DEFINITE encouragement for people to sim more if they're out of ideas themselves.
This would be a better reward than any for this since it would make a name for whatever simmer on the basis on how they've shown themselves to the public in terms of requests. Now, of course, this is optional and would take some work...but you gotta think that a lot of people would like something like this and at the same time have something to gloat about aside from the fact that they've made x number of files. This kind of gloat would be actually worth something.
It's actually a pretty good idea but there would be work necessary to get the ball rolling. The rest would just be in moving the people from that thread to this system. Another thing to think about is that mods wouldn't have to worry about finding those 'please make this sim' thread that you'll get every so often and have to divert them to the request thread.
