Default Any Advice?

I Am going to be Playing ITG For the first time...and I Need advice
because I Plan on entering (Not winning) The summer U.S Open thats coming up, I've allways wanted to enter a tournament, and this is my chance

So Any advice?

Specifically on:
What to do to better Stamina
What songs for a rookie to avoid
What songs can at least help me become a better player
and What songs Do I Want to practice on the most because they're usually chosen?

I don't think there's really any advice that isn't common sense - if you want to get better keep challenging yourself. You have to play for hours and hours every day to be able to compete with the folks who enter tournaments - and they've got years worth of experience under their belts so it's gonna be tough to catch up. Really, the big thing is don't take shortcuts - learn crossovers instead of double-stepping, don't use C-mods, play with mines and hands on -- all of these techniques will help your body develop new ways to pivot and position yourself for the harder (10+) songs. What step level are you at currently?

He's right, I had to learn the same way last year

And a word of advise: Be careful when you practice crossovers...especially if you're clumsy...like me
There may be some injuries involved in your attempt to get better at ITG

But now I'm at a 9-10 Expert footer and it's all thanks to this here advise

And I've been playing ITG since June 2007!

I Have a long way to go...I'm a 7-8-Maybe a 9 footer

Also crossovers are not that much of a problem (I Play DDR, Rhythm and Police and Exotic Ethnic, Great Practice)

The only problems I Might have is hitting 3/4 notes at once
Not hitting the mines (lol)
And even attempting 12/13 footers (If anyone chooses Pandemonium or Vertex I Am screwed)

What about my other questions? Like which song gets chosen most of the time?

there are three types of people that enter top-tier itg tournaments:

1) People that can reliably Quad-star (100%) most songs 9 and below, and occasionally harder songs. They tend to be bad at the more difficult charts, but since ITG is based on song wins and most of the songs are 11s and below, it's generally not an issue.

2) People that can reliably FA the harder songs (Pandemonium, V^2, Determinator). They don't tend to get Quads as often as the type 1 people, but still tend to get good Tri-stars (99%+)

3) The people that can do both (also known as the people that usually win)

I would not advise entering. If you want to go to watch, that'd be fine and probably a good idea, it gives you a goal to shoot for. I can say right now you probably won't win a single match.

I'm not trying to be a downer; just realistic. If you'd like to practice a lot and prove me wrong by all means, go ahead

I have a 95 average and can consistently *** lots of nines with low 99's and i can guaranty i wouldn't make it any in the competition either. unless i got lucky i might win one match if i seeded so high i was placed against some kid who entered just for 'fun'

most so-cal players that will be in that tournament know what they are doing and consistently *** 12's and 'hard charts.
so i agree with ranatalus. sadly ITG has died and there are a ton of people that 'beat' the game. a 95 average is good 2 years ago but if you wanna be in the top 200 you have to have at least a mid 98 average if i am correct.

There is my 2 cents and i might actually look at this thread for a reply

and as for common songs each individual player has songs they are good at and most people are really good at flying high, tribal style, and will pick song their competitor is not as good at. so there are no popular songs by any means. peope just are good and some songs. and since tons of people are good at them; they might not be a good choice.
any who its late and i think i am just rambling on. i hope some of this post means something to someone

Ok. so im going to make a bunch of educated assumptions for the tournament.

If i am 200th on groovestats.
most all the elite ITG players live in so-cal
if 50 people that are about 200 on groovestats are in the tournament (which i think is pretty fair) my chances are still very very low. even with a mid 98 average.

so statistically speaking me being at a 95 average i have like a 10% of winning a match and ~2% of making it past 2 rounds

so basically ITG is dead.

but as for being more on topic. . to gain more stamina i go down to easier songs and work on raising my score on easier stamina songs and then play a harder song thats barely harder and then try to consistently pass it. but mainly just practice. that sadly is all things come down to. practice and personal motivation.

i would say just play for fun but honestly i would suggest a new hobby or whatever ITG may be to you. its going downhill very fast.

I Would play it until the day It does die

However, I Am having 2nd thoughts about me entering the open

I Played ITG For the first time today

1. The Mat was Slippy
2. I Allways Chose Expert (Stupid! Stupid!)
And
3. My Song Choices!!!!!!!
Seriously, I Chose Fledth Uncut, Mellow, No 1 Nation, and Delirium. Mellow was Easy, NO1 Was Kinda Hard, Fleadth Uncut I Barly Survived, And Delirium, Well, I Won't get into specifics ^_^

So, Yeah, I Think in this one day my dreams of even entering Have been destroyed. DDR Is easier so I'll wait for them to have a tourny for it (Which is impossible).

Thanks for the opinions guys

The Verdict: I Will Keep on playing because the songs/Steps are more fun and original Then DDR, However, I Will not enter the Open

Thanks for telling me your 2 Cents Though ^_^
