ITG2 doubles: not so fun. In fact, very few of them are. I think the only one I like is Bloodrush's EX.
They tried to hard to outdo Nightmare from the looks of it, and failed. Pointless insanity /= difficulty.

The best crowd pleasers are the hand intensive expert charts (Disco, BYM, Habanera, etc) and stuff that is hard, but still passable with some practice (Liquid Moon comes to mind). The charts that are actually well made and fun to play more than once are typically hard charts, although there are some alright expert charts (Euphoria, Mellow are pretty well liked around here; I personally like Tell, Habanera 1, Hispanic Panic, and Hardcore Symphony). Yes, Tell is a worthwhile double 11... such a thing exists.
The 12s and 13s are mostly just there so you can hurt yourself... Determinator is there to awe singles players, since its a bit of a "ZOMG 12" like Sakura Single Heavy was a bit of a "ZOMG 10," but it's really not that good of a chart and the rest of the 12s are typically stamina drainers with hands thrown in to see if you're dumb enough to bend down in the middle of a death run. Not to say I don't still attempt Monolith even couple weeks (I've gotten pretty close).

Sure, some charts like Renaissance, Sunshine, and Hip Hop Jam, have really stupid hard twists, and many charts overdo it with the hands, but I have fun with most of them.
My personal favorites are Know Your Enemy (Expert), Bubble Dancer (Hard), Lemmings on the Run (Hard), Changes (Hard), Monolith (Expert), Destiny (Expert), Clockwork Genesis (Expert), Go *60* Go (Expert), Spin Chicken (Expert)... the list goes on. I still think it's better than DDR where most of the double charts are very unmemorable, easy, and boring compared to their singles counterparts. Of course there are some exceptions (Jana Jana :O~), but almost every ITG doubles chart is exciting. I honestly don't care if a chart is is "solid" as long as it follows the music and has no double stepping. I'd rather be presented with new and crazy challenges.

I used to play doubles alot, not so much anymore, but that's besides the point. When I played ITG1 doubles I would never touch the expert charts, because most of them were god awful. The hard charts from ITG1 though were mostly alot of fun like touch Me and Bubble Dancer, which is still one of my favorite doubles charts. Also Don't Promise Me happiness expert is one of the best charts in ITG IMO
ITG2 has ALOT better doubles expert charts than ITG1 did. Baby Baby is one of my favorite, Sunshine is fun if you can read and understand how to turn it, Wake Up is pretty fun with a good use of hands. Disco is well... disco, meaning its awesome if you can do it. Habanera 1 is really fun, especially when played no bar (I can thank pump it up for that one). I forget if it was Ize Pie or Psalm Pilot expert that was a pretty fun/weird chart.
As far as the really hard stuff goes... well most 10's are pretty bad (Infection, Destiny, D-code, Holy Guacamole...etc.). However, there is stuff like Hardcore Symphony, which I like alot some peple don't like it though. Honestly though stuff like Bloodrush and Monolith are actually alot of fun if you have the stamina/skill to get through them. Also most doubles players that I know really like Energizer expert, even though they might have trouble passing it. Personally I think energizer hard is a really good chart because it's pretty much the same but with less dumb hands.
And as far as comparing it to DDR, most DDR doubles charts were pretty bad. The only ones that I really like are actually all pretty simillar, but with different songs. If it has lots of twists and cross pad runs then usually I like it, but most DDR charts are pretty boring.

Don't Promise Me Happiness mix on expert is awesome, lots of doable 270 twists at a reasonable bpm for once (most others in the game i have found are with really fast bpms, like DFC single ex. or Bouff single ex. so everyone including myself doubles steps them), and some cool crossovers. The end is really cool too, kinda like a brief hard "grand finale" to top it all off, which I wish more charts would do.
Anubis hard is very fun as well, with very fun rhythms and transitions, Crazy hard has some really fun streams, Tribal Style ex. and Bend Your Mind ex/hard/med have awesome fun hands, Solina ex. has some really cool and fun crossovers. Those are just off the top of my head, I'm sure theres plenty more ITG1 doubles charts I love. Haven't gotten to play any ITG2 doubles yet, but if it ever comes out for PS2 I know I'll love them. Habanera 1 ex. double looks hella fun.

Anubis - Hard
Flying High - Hard
Kiss Me Red - Hard
Land of the Rising Sun - Hard
Lemmings on the Run - Expert (One of the few good Expert charts)
Mellow - Hard
Touch Me - Hard
Tough Enough - Expert (fun - in a bizzare hard twisted way. Lots of crossovers.)
Yeah, that's about it. Nothing good for freestyle doubles either.
Double Expert charts on ITG are not as good when compared to Pump steps or DDR.

Spin Chicken just takes advantage of the "crossing between pads" element of doubles so well. It reminds me a lot of the half-doubles charts in the old versions of Pump It Up.

Sweet World Hard: Nice intro to hands, doesn't do the fancy gallop thing that single hard does.
Psalm Pilot Hard/Expert: The only major difference between the two (besides the obvious stretching and the one hand in Expert) is a few more notes packed in one particular section of Expert. Both are still fun regardless.
Lemmings on the Run Expert: Just don't start with the obvious foot, and you'll have a blast.
Kagami Expert: I can't do this one no bar yet, but for some reason, I like it.
Renaissance Hard: ROLLS! 'nuff said.
Clockwork Genesis Hard/Expert: Both are fun for different reasons. Hard deviates from the normal "chaos only" idea and delivers a fun chart with hard stream. Expert is basically the single player version with more stretches, jump sections, and a tough, but doable, 8 ending measure.
Reactor Expert: One day, I'll get the turns and stretches right on this one...still fun to go for regardless.
Euphoria Expert: None of the stupidity of the single version, more of the fun. I do question the ending though.
Hope that helps. | |

I find stuff like Destiny and Monolith Hard to be overly strenuous..ironically charts not by MJ..
I particularly like Mouth Hard & Expert, Romeo and juliet Hard, Touch Me hard, Bloodrush hard, High hard and expert, psalm pilot hard and expert, and all the popish songs on hard
On the other end, stuff i absolutely hate is Normal Hard, incognito hard, and nearly everything on expert (baby dont you want me a 9?!)..and even charlene hard, which isnt difficult, but incredibly uncomfortable (and im a 6' guy)
Ive been trying to play more expert charts on doubles but they all really leave me drained, and once i pass one, i never want to play it again (hello bloodrush)
So, the problem is people like me that would rather have fun stuff to play on doubles are stuck in a narrow area, 6s are too easy and 9s are too difficult (I recently played a course that had four 9s on it, and it left me WAY more tired, using the bar, than if i were to play a DDR course with five 9-footers without bar), and theres not very much of interest in between, so we look like song whores.
Its quite an indicator seeing people come up with really short lists for whats fun on doubles, even from the people on the other side of the argument.
While every ITG doubles chart could be considered "exciting," The majority of Hard and nearly all of expert is also considered *not fun*
