Default ITG SKills Decreasing

Now, I used to be one of the better ITG players on this island, being able to beat all 11s and most 12s. I was getting reasonable scores in the game on both hard and expert, etc.

However, after awhile I got tired of going to the arcade where an ITG is close and went back to the mall arcade which only has DDR Ex. I was playing that for a few months, not playing ITG very often. My DDR teching has shot up since then, and I can AA most 8s and many 9s. However, I stopped playing ITG for about 3 months straight because my scores in that game had gone down. I was never able to beat any of my scores, and sometimes would be far from matching them.

I played again yesterday, and on Monolith (E-92%) I didn't make the scoreboard with 88%, VerTex2 (H-88%) I got about 78%, and on Energizer (E-83%) I made about 70%. Put simply, I suck at ITG now, but I am getting pretty good at DDR, hence why I have quit ITG for the most part.

ITG = judge 4
DDR = judge 5

Has anyone else experienced something like this?

Yes very much so. I can AA all 9's and below. I can AAA some 9's and below. I've only passed 10 10's from ITG1 & 2, and I played today, and did HORRIBLE. But then I got play DDR. AAA's and AA's.

Kinda happened to me. But in an even stranger fashion. I've been playing ITG2 MORE but my skill has been decreasing. The hardest song I could pass with decency was probably Infection expert, but for some reason over the past month or so my skill has gone down the toilet, even though I've been working harder and harder...I can't even pass Energizer, it's like my legs suddenly don't want to respond in the way I tell them to. And don't even get me started about drills. Even a 5-step drill will just look like a bunch of GREATs down the screen. It's awful and I can't figure out what's going on.

if you don't play ITG you'll lose your stamina, and the ability to PA while playing harder expert songs

I've AAd Extreme, 50 or so AAAs on it, and I can't pass any 12s anymore because I stopped playing ITG. I can't even pass some of the 11s consistently, but I have 16 on PSMO lol

if you don't play ITG you'll lose skill at it, that's about it

fuck expert anyway

Actually my skill was decreasing while I was playing, and that's why I stopped. It was just expert, it was also various hard songs down to difficulty 8. I literally formed a mountain with my skill level.

But DDR just keeps going up.

I had my DDR scores going down after I finally switched mainly to ITG (Dedicab = wierd timing, took me a couple months to fully adjust, which is when my DDR scores died) a few months ago, but lately my ITG scores have been off too. It's nothing too huge, but enough to not care about FA over playing marathons, blender, or double. A lot of people seem to be going through this recently. Not caring about FA has definitely been messing me up.

ITG simply takes a lot more dedication to keep your skill consistant than DDR did (playing 5 or 6 sets once a week was enough to still slowly improve on DDR, whereas the only players around here who are still consistantly improving at ITG either don't consistantly FA yet or spend 12 or more hours each week practicing in arcades).

The fact I've been playing a lot of Pump recently probably isn't helping, the perfect window is way too loose for improving timing (although my speed and endurance haven't been better).

I agree yet disagree. Pads are different, stepcharts are more technical. There is going to be a difference when you move from one game to the other, especially if you're going from DDR to ITG dedicab, but the move from an old cabinet to a newer one is prevelent enough in itself. When you practice one you're going to lose accuracy in the other. I started with DDR, then moved to Pump, then to ITG. The difference is extreme (excuse the pun) when it comes to timing windows.

On the same token, there are concepts which can be worked on. If you have a problem crossing over, gallops, step-behinds, candles, streams, drills, taps, etc., you should note that and play songs that have you developing those skills. All the games have songs which can help you move forward in your game, no matter which one you're playing.

My personal opition is this: If you want good double charts to start off on, play some DDR Extreme doubles. If you want to build some stamina, I have yet to find a better game for this than Pump It Up. If you want to build your technical accuracy, ITG.

In the end, play which one you love and if you love them all like me, well then you're set. :-D

If you start playing ITG again and go at it hardcore for about a month you should be able to get back to where you were (if you wanted to).

My scores on any dance game hit lows now and then when I take breaks from playing, but with some time and effort I can always come back and reach a new high.

It's common logic, if you do the 12s and 13s, then just do 10s and stuff lower than those, you will not be as good at the 12s and 13s.

The same story happened to me too with losing ITG skill because it just wasn't around when I left for school in the fall. Several months after, when I was off for school vacation, I couldn't even pass Driving Force Classical :X

Well, the issue isn't with the 12s and 13s, it's all of ITG. I used to beat my own records or come very close on a semi-regular basis to beating them. I hardly ever play songs below 8-difficulty, typically I play 9-11. I didn't take a break from the game, I simply say my ITG skills begin to lower. When I saw this I began to play DDR a bit more often, seeing that my abilities in that game were going up, and eventually I stopped ITG completely.

I started playing PIU less than a month ago, but that is irrelevant.

The more I play Pump (all the time) the worse I get at every rhythm game that isn't Pump. I blame the perfect window. Also, is it just me, or is it -much- easier to nail fast streams on Pump? I can fc through decently fast streams on Pump, but I struggle through slower streams on ItG.

So far this hasn't happened to me...yet. But I guess I will have to await the day that it comes.

I didn't play for 2 months. Then I passed Charlene (expert) and VerTex (hard) for the first time.
