Uh... actually, the machine won't read it if U3 is installed.

R21 rocks, there's nothing wrong with it. I wouldn't bother worrying about r23

there is also r22, it allows to play songs up to 2.30 minutes and it has not the sync issues on upgraded cabinets, like r21 has!

There's a reason why R22 was taken down.... It had more bugs than the current CVS of SM 4.0. Oh and it didn't play songs for 2:30 minutes. It actually played songs that were less than 90 seconds.

You forgot to mention the fact that it makes everything very off sync and the BG vids were broken.

Fuckkkk r21, omg so off sync. I just want to kill the kid that convinced our store manager to let him do it.

Somebody hack the r2x update to make it unsuck and longer than two minutes.
How hard could it be?

As you guys can tell I'm pretty new here, though I have been playing ITG for awhile. Recently I saw a couple of guys playing a custom song(Umbrella I believe) and I thought that it was possibly the coolest thing I have ever seen. So after being informed by a friend of mine, I dl'd a couple of simfiles and place them on my usb drive so I can use. Well to make a long story short, they didn't work. So I'm wondering what I did wrong? Do I need to install something, or do I need to put the simfiles in a specific folder? And yes I did read the guide, but I'm still kinda confused on what to do. I'd appreciate it if someone could help me. Thanks!!!

It's not a problem. I'll beat the other members in to revealing the secret then bashing you.

On your usb, you need to have a folder system like this.

F:/In the Groove 2/Songs
Just like Stepmania.

BUT! there's a catch. You have to convert the mp3 in to ogg and then change the thing inside the .sm file to say ogg instead of mp3. That way it doesn't confuse itself when trying to find the music file.
Keep in mind, the idea of using r23 means it can't be longer than 1 minute 59 seconds. Roughly 2 minutes.
But there is a way as to tricking it in to thinking it isn't 2 minutes long, BUT ONCE AGAIN a catch. r23 uses a forceful ending system that stops songs immediately at 2 minutes if the file is "hacked".

If you look around the forum, there are more detailed posts about it.
Since you are new and I'm not too new myself, just use the search button and look around, click on things, explore, adventure.
Lewis and Clark didn't go across America asking what to expect, so neither should you.

WORST ANALOGY EVER.

You have to have the mp3 converted to ogg format and also have the sm file. i usually delete everything else after i convert my mp3s to ogg. some sims that i download are already in that format so yay. Did u also put ur custom songs in the itg2 folder that is created when you insert the flash drive in the machine for the first time? If you didnt then thats why they arent working. hey anyone whos interested download the sim harder better faster stronger. Has pauses so its really fun:] http://www.bemanistyle.com/sims/profile.php?id=19818

So I bought a small, cheap flash drive for ITG: (Click)

And what do you know, I got a CARD MOUNT ERROR when I tried it for the first time today. I read up what it means on the ITG site, but I was also messing with it a bit with SM3.9's MemoryCard functions. I reformatted it using Disk Management today (FAT32, default unit allocation size, removed the volume label) hoping that it will work next time (I don't get to play ITG AC all that often).

I want to know if anyone has had any success with this drive, or if I should just bite the bullet and buy this instead.

they released it only to let people play all custom songs even with upgraded cabinets......even relatively long songs, but they realized that 2:30 was too much....and merged the two version together (r21 and r22) in r23 with the limitation of 2:00 minutes...it is the only logical reason....I've never heard of bugs in r22 and I tested it
