Default Virgin ITG Cab Owner & Customization

Hey guys, sorry if this is in the wrong spot.

I am in the throws of purchasing an ITG machine; and there are many questions that I have. If anyone has some words of wisdom from personal experience or knows where I can go do some meaningful reading, it would be greatly appreaciated.

Also, more specifically...

If I were to purchase the hardware / software for some version of DDR (or PIU), would I be able to "swap out" the innards and be on my way?
Can it be done without gutting the machine down to the cabinet and filling it back up with DDR/PIU "guts"?
Would I be better off throwing a PC in and running Stepmania?

A thousand thanks in advance for any help!

if you have an itg upgrade, switching between ddr and itg should be pretty easy (switch between they System 573 and the boxor)

if you get an itg2 dedicated cabinet, you could probably play pump on it provided you had pads (and you might also need an mk6). this hasn't been tested, however, and i obviously can't make any guarantees.

having a machine that does all three easily is either impossible or not worth the effort

On a dedicated cabinet, I can see it being possible, but you would PROBABLY have to do rewiring, and you would have a extremely hard time switching between hardware, because you would need to rewire everything every time.

On a DDR machine, its not a problem, its very simple to switch between DDR and ITG, you just move the hardware, and swap hardware.

using Pump on those machines is impossible, although you can run PIU on a ITG machine... there is no way you can play it! lol You are missing an arrow. You can also do it the other way around as well, but gameplay is akward.

Again, I am not 100% sure about DDR on a dedicab ITG machine, but from what I have seen, You cant just swap between hardware.

The dealer said specifically that it is not an official dedicated cabinet, but that it looks official and assured me that the innards are 100% genuine. As far as I know it is ITG and not ITG2.

I'm not really looking to achieve this, I just wanted to put it out there incase ITG / PIU was an easier conversion to pull off rather than ITG / DDR.

Kyle Ward Save your local ITG Machines! Konami made an "upgrade" kit for any ITG cab to DDRSN. I'm assuming it could be for a dedi or a upgraded cabinet. Maybe try looking for one of these?

If the story in that link is accurate, the "conversion kit" costs more than buying a whole additional cabinet would. But thanks for the info!

that poster refers to DDR machines that were upgraded to ITG

saving doing a LOT of re-wiring there is NO WAY to upgrade ITG to DDR

I went and re-read the post again, maybe I'm just completly missing it.

I know about the conversion kits that Rockstar put out that were the origional reason they got in hot water; you're saying this article is about those?

Please elaborate (if you can) on the "ALOT of re-wiring" part.

Rockstar lol. You mean RoXoR.

Anyways... on a DDR machine upgrades to a ITG machine... Yes you can change back and fourth between DDR and ITG. HOWEVER, if its the official cabinet (also known as a dedicab), you CAN NOT change between DDR and ITG without doing a ton of rewiring.

Lol yes, RoXoR.

I was told it is not a dedicab, but that it was converted/customized/rebuilt to look and act like one. I guess I'll have to wait and see when its sitting infront of me.

What are non-dedicabs known as?

non dedicabs are cabinets that were originally DDR machines and had their insides replaced; if it is one of these machines, then you could fairly easily change it back to DDR 1st through Extreme if you had the 573 system board, or SN/SN2 if you were to buy one of those upgrade kits.

is he not giving you pictures of any kind? if he is saying it "looks like a dedicab" but isn't one, i worry that it may be one of the knockoff namco cabinets which are a complete waste of your time and money (even if he only wants $1000 it is still NOT worth that)

Yes... The namco ones are seriously bad news. If something breaks that isnt already, good luck trying to fix it. The cabinets are shit to begin with.

Ask for a picture and post it on here, and we can help you tell if its an ok buy. Namco ones are pretty easy to tell apart by just looking at the pads.

Alrighty, I'll do that.

The cab is on its way to a near-by warehouse, when it gets there I'll make him take pics or I'll visit, snap a few and post 'em up.
