i remember once upon a time this thread was about guitar hero iv... i have a feeling this game will just take the good out of both guitar hero and rock band (boss battles, band world tour) and just work out the problems that both of them are having... this seems like a good view from an activision standpoint im sure, but i really want to see something new (and not a lawsuit, those arent new at all)

Harmonix aren't suckers. They've been making music games for close to 10 years now. Granted they had a pretty big gap inbetween FreQuency, Amplitude and the first GH. Sure Konami had rights for guitars/drums and what not, but if Konami never plans on bringing that down to the US then they missed out.

I thoroughly enjoyed guitar hero, and guitar hero 2, and enjoy playing rock band, if harmonix where to be be sued, then there would be no new songs on rock band, and that would devastate me, konami was too slow in getting their games to the US, and harmonix beat them to the punch, plain and simple, there is simply too many differences for harmonix to lose anyway, would just be a waste of money and time.

Konami doesn't have the right to sue, and they would have already done it by now were it actually a viable or logical option for them. They're almost three years late to the party on this.

The only potential lawsuit that could arise from this is Harmonix/EA suing Activision. If their game design works too similarly to Rock Band, they can claim it's a ripoff.

The major thing Activision needs to be careful with regarding GH4 is how they handle the vocal aspect of it. If it plays too much like Karaoke Revolution or Rock Band (Both Harmonix developed, which is another reason Konami was probably reluctant to sue HMX) then HMX can sue for ripping off their game design.

Gonna be interesting to see how this pans out, although I seriously doubt Rock Band can be topped at their own game. As much as I like playing GH3, I find myself sticking to GH2 or Rock Band when given the choice. Harmonix charts better, makes better interfaces, and knows more about music than Neversoft.

Plus, no Wrigley's "5" gum on the song select screen is always a plus in my book.

And bam. Guitar Hero is officially a dead franchise.

The only reason people are still buying it is that it's just more hyped than Rock Band has been.

Remember the scene from South Park where Randy comes in and plays Carry On My Wayward Son on a real guitar and everyone looks at him like he's a fucking twat?

I don't really have a problem with it, I've just seen some of my friends put down their REAL guitars for guitar hero.

yes I do, it was in a CARTOON COMEDY show, starring 9-10 YEAR OLD KIDS.
christ, why has that episode suddenly made everyone assume that's the entire adult guitar hero fanbase's mindset?

I wonder how they can pull all of this off, including their other games that they are also working on (Tony Hawk series, Call of Duty, etc). I even wonder if they actually take their time in these games to put quality over quantity.

Activision is a publisher, as is EA. They don't do all the work on the games. How is it Capcom or Nintendo can make multiple games at once?

Harmonix does Rock Band and nothing else. Neversoft might handle both GH and Tony Hawk, but I doubt there's been any real work put into the THPS series since THPS3.

No. US is the only country to currently have Rock Band. I think it's releasing next week in Europe, or it may have been released this week I don't remember. As for GH, I don't think there's a JP version. I'd say about 90% of the US games don't have a JP release and visa versa. (For XBOX360 that is)

Guitar Hero III has been released in Japan.

Don't get too excited, it has the same exact songlist.
