How do players get 5 Gold Stars in Rock Band? Can that be possible without a full band, or no?

Gold Stars are only attainable on Expert, and can be acquired with any amount of players. they don't all require FC's, just massive scores. and they're not attainable on all songs in Solo mode.

98% on "i think i'm paranoid" by garbage - expert drums - was my first gold 5 star.

yes you can five star on solo, but you must be on Expert. You must also use overdrive, and its very difficult on any of the downloaded songs, compared to the games normal setlist.

its about 1.5x the score of a 5 star on expert, at least in solo play. it usually is more when playing with more than one instrument, not really sure if theres a number for it

I have noticed that any song on guitar that doesn't have a solo has to basically be full comboed to get gold stars on it.

In those cases it's either FC or use an Overdrive path that lets you pick up at least two more overdrive refills and keep going. Doing that nets you more than if you'd run out of OD and then refilled.

But yeah about 1.5x what it takes to get five stars is a pretty good estimate.

Yeah, a high percentage is important, but the Overdrive path is the most essential. You have to hit the maximum number of notes at that 8x multiplyer so you can milk out some serious points.

And it's actually not that bad once you start to get them. You notice a lot of the songs carry the same paths and patterns where the OD's are laid down.

Yeah I normally just do OD logically, like hold a full bar, wait a little bit, use it. RB's overdrive doesn't seem to require me to memorize it, you just have to be intelligent with it.

I find that if you don't get a first-try gold-5-star, it's still easy to get it by the second time on the easier songs. After one play, you know which sections have the greatest numbers of notes which you can easily FC. Long sections of chords are optimal places, usually, because you'll rarely mess them up when compared to a solo part in the same song, yet they usually have the same number of notes.
