Which bass pedal(s) to buy for a drum kit at retail stores?

I know I should approach with caution when using the WT drum kit (or maybe I should wait for the GH5 drum kit... we'll see), but with regards to Expert+ play in Metallica and Smash Hits, which bass pedals should I get in retail stores?

The day Metallica came out I bought this for Expert Plus. Right out of the box it did not work. Even when I switched the mode to Guitar hero, I would need to kick EXTREMELY hard to get a kick out of the pedal. The splitter it comes with is useless also. If you are going to try it make sure that you will be able to return the pedal in case it does not work.

People said in the reviews that there is a little yellow plastic piece on the bottom of the pedal that needs to be removed and then the pedal works perfectly - did you try this? To clarify, I don't have this pedal, I was just going off of the reviews on gamestop.com.
