Well I think guitar hero should have a mix of old and new I like alot of variety.

I totally agree with the original post. Underoath, Saosin, The Audition, Blink-182, maybe some Anberlin, Monty Are I, AVA, etc would be amazing!

At first i didn't like guitar hero because it didn't have any modern songs but i've grown to like it.

I think a blink song is in guitar hero 3 though if i remember correctly.

I love the songs on Guitar Hero as is. I think it's a nice mix of Classic Rock and New Age stuff. And I sorry, but if you don't have any respect for Classic Rock like Lynard Skynard, AC/DC, and Led Zepplin, you don't need to be playing anything with guitars.

Here's my list of a few mainstream rock and metal bands that would really be awesome in this game:

Incubus (Not their ultra-poppy stuff like Drive, although I like that song, stuff like SSLW, Priceless, Deep Inside, Rogues, Paper Shoes, etc.)

Sonata Arctica (Especially stuff from their first 3 albums)

Symphony X (Has anyone listened to their newest album? It's awesome)

Children of Bodom (Kissing the Shadows would kick major ass)

SOAD (I know, I know, they're a guilty pleasure band, but a song like Lonely Day might work)

Arctic Monkeys (I Bet You Look Good On The Dancefloor, plz!)

A7x (Stuff from Waking The Fallen, like I Won't See You Tonight pt.2 or Second Heartbeat)

Buckethead (Gimme Soothsayer!!!!!)

Dethklok (When Dethalbum comes out, many songs might work)

Dream Theater (Under a Glass Moon, anything from Train of Thought, etc.)

Muse (The song I wanted, we're getting, Knights of Cydonia)

Warmen (Salieri Strikes Back pwns)

Tenacious D (A guitar-heavy song like Master Exploder)

Artic Monkeys would be fantastic. One of my favorite bands. However, I'd like Scummy. The lyrics are just kickass to me (He's a scumbag, don't you know), but probably too suggestive for GH (talks about prostitution, uses the F word). Leave Before the Lights Come On would be good too. The guitar seems like it would be fun to play and an easier Expert for people to learn on.

I'd like some Incubus like Pardon Me or something like that, but it's probably not what you're looking for. I love that song.

Some REM would be fantastic, too. What's the Frequency, Kenneth?, Man on the Moon, Losing My Religion, Everybody Hurts, etc.

I'd also like some Rhapsody. I prefer them over Dragonforce and the guitar wouldn't make my hands bleed, bruise and blister as much.

Maybe something from Beck that actually has guitar. Beck is one of my favorite artists.

I also like Smashmouth. Walking On The Sun or something from Astro Lounge would be kickass, they could also try something from the newest album, since there are some good slower songs or some 50s style faster ones.

I might like to see some mid-nineties Third Eye Blind.

For sure we need some Soundgarden, though. Spoonman or Black Hole Sun would be so fantastic.

yes, Tenacious D is one of my favorite bands and the song that is confirmed for Guitar Hero 3 is called, "The Metal" i do believe. I would love to see a song like master exploder or something even a little more mellow from them like "wonder Boy" (nice smoothe song to play along too). But Either way, the song should be pretty kick ass!

If you were going to include recent music, you'd have to make sure it has awesome guitar solos in it! The old rock songs seemed to have more focus on the guitar than a lot of music does nowadays.
