See, GH3 has by far the best songlist of all three, toting a lot of instantly recognizable hits that everyone is going to want to play. However, these same songs are often the most boring damn charts in the game, and while rock anthems, they just aren't appropriate for actually being fun as a notechart (notable example: Paranoid).
GH2 doesn't have as good a songlist, but its charts are better. Harmonix knew what they were doing in picking songs a lot better than Neversoft did. If you're a serious player and are looking for cool stuff in that regard, pick up GH2. However, if you're a casual player who just wants to muck around and play on medium, Jesus Christ, you want GH3.
