you know, the one in gh2. OBOYOBOY on title screen.

do you use it often? have you used it at all? is it cheating?

personally i think it makes jordan a lot easier, and should be a regular opton in the next game.

It makes songs easier at higher levels because the notes are more spread out.
Harmonix putting it as a code and calling it a 'cheat' when you put it in was a bad move, but it shows America's general view (as with playing 2x note on Supernova) that modifiers = cheating. Look at any youtube videos of people playing GH2 with hyperspeed and you'll find people calling them 'cheating fag' etc.

I wonder if people would still harass people for using the Performance Mode 'cheat'.

I personally hate people who say that mods are cheating. It's like the same people who say the bar in DDR is cheating because it makes it easier. I say if the game freely has it, use it whatever way you want. Its really only cheating if you use outside help to improving your play (using something the game does not come with*), or you fake scores by saying you are using the GH controller but you are actually using dualshock or something.

* Towel mode in IIDX doesnt count as cheating because it makes the game harder, but nowadays in IIDX, you can just use Sudden+ and its the same thing.

Performance mode = Stealth. The note chart doesn't even show up at all.

NOTHING shows up. All you can see if the background, stage, band, audience etc. Though it's still working so you can fail, there's no notechart, score counter, multiplier or life bar.

This is correct, but it's not the view of the majority of America, and that's all companies care about

I only used it once, and that was for Hangar 18 (Hard).

ive only known one person in my life ho would consider Speed Mods as cheating. ive always seen it as an easier to read formula

uhh what are you talking about toweling makes the the notes even easier to read why do you think people use it? you can react to notes without all the distractions

HMM it seems that things like performance mode suggests that the game is geared for those who play it enough to use the practice mode, or play enough to memorize the routine. Which in turn reminds me of actual music performance: you're generally required to memorise the music you perform.

To that effect, perhaps it was deemed unnecessary to allow for different scroll speeds. However, I was somewhat miffed that there was no option for that in the practice mode, since that's nothing to do with performance.

Towelling makes the notes "easier to read" because it simulates a slightly faster game speed -- say, if you towel at 2.0x, perhaps you achieve 2.25x... I don't know the exact ratios; you can always go over to the IIDX forums and ask if you're so inclined. Towelling simulates this slightly higher speed by reducing the time you have to react to the notes.

I think what he meant to say was, towelling is pretty much custom speed-modding, and since speed-modding is generally allowed (and even encouraged) for bemani games, nobody really complains... although IMO I think it looks kinda stupid, but that's just me

I like it. But give it more options and make it easily accessable like in BM/IIDX. If it helps, use it freely. I like to play all different speeds for songs in these games.

I'm assuming the reason some consider hyper-speed a cheat is because no song is really hard enough for it to be necessary, unlike IIDX and Pop'n where a notechart like Jordan Expert would be just another another chart. DDR is not a game that really requires it, and I believe there were debates over hi-speed in that as well.

I really have no issue with hyper-speed in GH due to my background in IIDX. I think the emphasis should be on playing rather than reading, especially since real rock performers don't have this scrolling guitar tab telling them what to play.

Personally, I think that if you play IIDX 3rd Style and you're NOT using Lo-Speed 2, you're cheating. Normal speed is for cheating losers.

Exactly, playing on anything other than performance mode is clearly cheating!
