I think the song list so far is excellent. I dont know if I can afford the complete package but I will most certanly be playing some instrument lots.
I suppose any discussion regarding the game can go here.

Overall, I think it's a Harmonix version of Guitar Freaks, Drum Mania, and Karaoke Revolution in co-op mode. Now if Konami would do the same with Karaoke Revolution now....

It's what I keep telling the less-knowledgeable people around me, anyway. Growing up in an asian country and being surrounded with rhythm games in the arcade makes you more aware of such things.
However, the main difference between GH and Guitar Freaks being that you can actually play the WHOLE song in GH.. I think that's what makes people think it's awesomer.

Learn2Diversify your music game interests
OK so GF/DM did it first. We all get it. We can stop pointing it out now. Unfortunately its 2007. I know I'm getting super bored with the limited music/interface/session/online play/downloadable content etc. etc. that Konami has to offer. Rock Band, while not at the level of technical complexity that is GFDM, is doing a lot of things right that Konami just isn't converting on.
For the sake of this argument we'll completely ignore the fact that Konami doesn't even have any domestic offerings for this game .
Hell Guitar Hero is the music game thats taken music gaming to the mainstream in the US. When was the last time one of the most anticipated E3 games was a music game?
As for the drums... keep in mind that Konami doesn't even offer a low level arcade controller. Comparing the Rock Band drums to the topway controller..... welll... comparing the Rock Band drums to the Yamaha drumsets ($$$).... well..... I think you get the idea .
All in all, learn to appreciate what both games bring to the table. Did Guitar Hero and Rock Band totally jack Konami's idea? Sure as hell they probably did. But the fact is, Konami has some catch up work to do, because in my humble opinion, Harmonix/MTV/Activision/Neversoft/Yourmom/Konamiwillsue is completely improving upon Konami's model, especially if we focus on here in the states.
Don't get me wrong, GF/DM will always have a special place in my heart but, they seriously need to start improving on their model for this franchise. It's easy to see their focus is on IIDX (lol 15 alreadyz?) and Pop'n

I don't like GH's gameplay and music as much as GF (and I played GH before GF, so it's not like i've been a huge GF fan since 1st mix and never gave GH a chance), and from what I've seen of rock band so far, it looks like pretty much all of my complaints about GH are going to carry over to that game.
and I wouldn't say that what GH and RB's developers are doing to the formula is improving it. In my opinion guitar hero's gameplay and interface is ass compared to GF (this has been discussed to death already, so i won't go into detail). I especially wouldn't say downloadable content is improving on any formula. In my opinion most of the downloadable content available for games is stuff that should have been included on the game disc to begin with. what's worse is when you just pay to download keys to unlock stuff that is already on the disc (ddr universe, anyone?). but back to guitar hero and rock band: for individual song downloads, i think it'd be better if they just save it all and when they get enough just release another game. but i guess this way you only buy songs you want to play. I just hope they don't charge as much as the songs for GH2 on xbox 360 (eek!). And then theres the downloading entire albums idea in rock band. I donno, I just can't imagine every song on a cd being fun to play in a video game.

Yeah, a full set like DTXPress would be nice, but presumably they can't make one because of financial constraints and/or accessibility. Double bass, however, seems like it would be really easy to add, you wouldn't even need a separate in-game column for it. There are so many songs that Drummania is missing out on because they have no double bass.. the same can be said for the current design.

1. "The pads are a durable synthetic rubber material, housed in a plastic shell. From the top down, our drums are meant to be pounded on with wooden drumsticks."
2. Bass drum was going to be it's own seperate lane, but they changed it to a line because having a seperate lane made the game "too hard".
3. Harmonix did admit that Konami did instrument peripheral games first, but they say that their inspiration is not other rhythm games, "but rather real musical instruments and the joy we get from playing them."
Also, I don't care how unoriginal it is, I'm hyped.
