Default Rock Band guitar compatibility? (XB360)

So I've heard pretty much definitively that the Rock Band guitar will NOT work on Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock. Any confirmation on this? And has anyone tested it with GHII yet?

The thing is, I've heard that the guitars being used with the demo units (and most likely the ones given to the press) aren't the final product being shipped with the game.

Harmonix would benefit more from encouraging people to buy their DLC instead of spending $40 on a copy of GH2 since RB is the brand they're building on now

Think of it as investing in the future

This way if someone wanted Guitar Hero as well they'd have to buy the whole guitar plus game, which is less appealing than just expanding on the game you've already bought (Rock Band) for less money at a time (a buck per song or whatever)

I suppose, but it's odd to not place yourself as an alternative to buying GHIII as a second guitar for those who already own GHII for the 360. For anyone whose holiday purchase was somewhat relying on compatibility with the product they already own (and that is at this point almost a year old) they may see this as a reason to get GHIII instead of Rock Band this holiday season.

I think it's not a decision made by Harmonix, but probably by either MTV Games or EA Games. That, and they have another company making the parts for Rock Band, not Red Octane. EA Games / MTV Games want mad profits from Harmonix's work, not piggybacking on the previously installed gamer base.

And you can start GH2 / GH3 with the Rock Band controller, but it won't detect anything once you get into song.

It wouldn't even let me start GH3 with the guitar in, I got an error message saying "An unsupported guitar peripheral has been detected, please insert a Guitar Hero Guitar or XB360 Controller to continue."

This is BS. Activision is locking out Rock Band, not the other way around.

They need the leverage. GH3 slurps shitballs.
