Default 3rd Gen Tatakon

So it seems that there was a 3rd Generation Tatakon for Taiko no Tatsujin released by Namco back in 2004.

As you can see, it started being bundled with the Tobikkiri! Anime Special game, and includes a new stand that can hold your drumsticks when not in use.

The main reason I bring this is up is because apparently, they changed the way they designed the inside of the controller, too.

As you can see, the pegs that hold down the rubber face has changed dramatically, along with the way the sensor is held along the rim. The rubber pegs actually go THROUGH a hole in the plastic pegs, which poses a serious obstacle in removing the rubber face from the tatakon. Since I don't have this controller at all, I can't figure out how to actually go about removing the rubber face without actually cutting a hole on the side of the plastic pegs to remove them that way. If anyone has the model, numbered NPC-108, please post here and see if you can find a way to remove the rubber face. I'll go and see if I can get this bundle, or any of the later game versions with a tatakon bundled together, so I can go about doing this myself. I ask this since someone else needs help fixing the controller, who is having trouble with the corner sensors not being sensitive enough. Thanks, fellow Donder!

I do have this controller. It was bundled with Taiko 6: Wai Wai Happi Rokudaime. So far the tatakon has been working well (passed my first 9-star recently). I never tried to remove the rubber face. I'll try to see if i can find a solution.

I'm pretty sure his problem stems from it being so new that it takes a pretty hard hit for the corners to register. We'll see how it goes for him.

Also, don't go breaking it if it seems like it's the only way. I don't want anyone ruining a perfectly good tatakon.

That looks pretty similar to the one I got with Taiko 7.

Seems fine so far, but one thing I can say about it is that those little red clips don't seem super strong. Just from general play two of the clips that hold the rubber have snapped off and gone wayward inside the drum.

I could hear them rattling around whenever I was drumming so I had to open up the drum to fetch them out.

This wasn't both at the same time mind you, it was on two separate occasions

I assume that the ones that broke off actually weren't holding the rubber pegs, since they came loose and rattled around. I'd become worried when the ones actually holding them down DO come off, since eventually, you'd be left with a rubber skin that moves around when you play with it. D:

Nah they were definitely ones that were holding the pegs, as I remember that it was only a piece of the clip that had come off and was rattling around, and there was still half of it attached to the peg. It was loosely attached to the peg as it'd snapped away from the drum but yeah.

I would think those are the more susceptible ones to breakage anyway, as they are attached to the skin of the drum which you are hitting all the time, if you hit it too hard, or move the skin around somehow then the clips are going to be getting pulled/moved around as well.

Well, we figured out that you can shave off a bit of the rubber peg enough so that you can remove it, and it would still be held rather securely when you pull it back in. Problem solved.
