Default Taiko Drum Master

I have been thinking about buying this game for a while now, but I am wondering if it is worth my while or not. I do NOT have a modded PS2 nor will i get one so getting a japanese version is out of the question. If you could please tell me in general what the songlist is like in terms of genres of music (i reallly dont need such and such a song is on there unless you have a link to an mp3) or what flaws there are with the game that would help. BTW, i have not played the Japanese version so doing a comparison will not help me at all.
Thanks in advance

That's the songlist, I don't think it's worth it, but I grew up and loved Taiko since the first one when it was released. So the American version is really nothing to me, nor do I own the game. I played it once, disliked it, and never bothered.

Don't buy it. Worst 40 bucks I ever spent. The songs are horrible. I should've checked before I bought it.

I have Taiko Drum Master, it works if you have no other options. The song list isn't the best, but like you I don't have a modded PS2 (I used to) so I don't have a choice. I'd actually never heard of Taiko No Tatsujin until someone offered to sell me this "drumming game." I brought it home, played it, and had a good time. I'm sure you will too, so just go for it.

Note that I only had to pay $20 for it.

If you can only get the US one, I would say any songs but the Pop covers are good songs. All of the Classical and Namco Original songs were in earlier versions of japanese PS2 Taiko.
EDIT: Except Foster's Medley.

This is the first in the series I ever tried. I had a lot of fun with it, but then I modded my PS2 and started playing the Japanese releases, and basically just forgot all about it. Only a handful of songs are really fun and challenging in the American release. But I suppose it's the best for beginners who aren't sure if they should spend so much money getting their hands on one of the Japanese Taiko games, as well as modding their PS2 and getting a drum.

Same advice I would give. I'd say try it, and if you'd like to branch off to the JP releases, go for them. More songs and more fun.

HD Advance (HDA) sucks compared to HD Loader (HDL), mostly because the hard drive runs off the USB and HDL is free. Slide Cards are known to break your PS2 drive. Fliptops and Swap Magic are the safest way to go other than HDL, but HDL is a more expensive route as you have to buy a hard drive, and DVD-R media is pretty cheap.

The point was that I am not willing to spend my money on something that will potentially render my ps2 unuseable so that I can play Japanese games.

I think if I can find it cheap somewhere I might pick it up. ty for your input

If you have a fat PS2, then the only mod worth it is HDL, which is SORT of expensive, but if it's a slim, all you really need to buy are SwapMagic discs, which run AT MOST $25 including shipping. And all the taiko games are CD-based, FYI.

Modding a PS2 is NOT SO HARD, and there's a slim chance of you actually damaging your system if you do the simpler ones (i.e. not a modchip). But in any case, the US version is fine if you steer clear from the pop songs.

Well, if you do wish to get the Japanese games, just go for the swap disk + flip top/magic keys way. Its inexpensive, and with the slim ps2 like I have, there is virtually no harm done to the system in any way whatsoever. AND the whole setup can cost less than one game, so if you wish to play imports, or your legitimately owned backups, you can do so.

I would say it's worth it for sure if u get a good price. i got it for 70$ U.S. when i was little and i've grown with it now. of course at this point the oni songs are easy but some of the songs always are hard no matter what so chalange isn't an issue. if you can get it cheap definatly go for it
