Default Taiko no Tatsujin 7 confusion!

Hi there! I tried posting twice in the stickied thread about Taiko no Tatsujin Doka To Omori Nanadaime but both times (after posting really big posts too) it just said "a moderator will approve your comments before they appear" and then they never did?

Anyway, what I basically wanted to know is, this item; is it simply Taiko no Tatsujin 7?

The reason I ask is because I finally wanted to pick up the home version of Taiko no Tatsujin, and I thought I'd jump on the bandwagon by buying the most recent version + the tatacon. I had read that the most recent version was Taiko no Tatsujin 7, and I thought that that was the one I've linked to above... but then Play-Asia's description of it really confused me;

Quote:
Taiko No Tatsujin bang tap! Toomori7daimei is the latest work in Namco's popular drum rhythm game for PlayStation® 2. This sequel is mainly at families with school-going children, with more game content suitable for gamers of various age to play. Game modes included are "Play Mode", "Mini Games", "Taiko Battle", "Adventure Land", "Taiko Communications" and more.

Control Wada Don who takes part in various events like music playing and mini-games to progress towards the final goal in a fictional world shaped like Japan. The average time taken to reach the end is about three hours and though the game has ended, new challenges will still appear, and one can continue to engage in the rich game content.

Up to eight players can play at the same time. It is most suitable for warming things up during gatherings and having fun together.
They seem to make it out like it's a kiddy/easy version of taiko for gatherings or something?? that's not what I want however, I want the standard fare taiko, just the next edition in the series + drum.

Is that actually what Doka To Omori Nanadaime is? And Play-Asia's description is just a bit misleading or should I consider buying the other bundle that Play-Asia have for sale? Wai Wai Happy Muyome I think?

Any help would be very appreciated!

1) Play-Asia has some of the best (read. WORST) descriptions about games.
2) They try to (poorly) translate titles of games at times, and that leads to a lot of confusion. The full title is supposed to be "Taiko no Tatsujin: Doka To Omori Nanadaime," which is the latest PS2 version.
3) The game is still challenging, even more so than the last one, because of the fact that it has 2 of the hardest songs as of late (kitasaitama2000 and soroban2000). Plus, they updated the GUI to the current one found in Taiko no Tatsujin 9 (AC).

Also, the 6th one is called Wai Wai Happpy Rokudaime. Again, play-asia's fault.

Ahahah, I see. Well that clarfies things a lot! Sorry to post all over the place to get my questions answered.. this thread hadn't actually appeared when I posted in another slightly unrelated thread. (and I suppose technically my initial two still haven't appeared )

I went a little crazy with impatience earlier though and I just figured that the bulk of what I could find (though it was still very little) information wise from Google, was that Doka To Oomori Nanadaime was indeed the 7th in the series.. so I just took a gamble and ordered it ahaha...

But yes, Play-Asia are a great and all (my order is shipped already, I ordered.. merely a few hours ago!) but I do see sometimes that it looks like they have simply run the translations through babelfish.. however in this case it was all quite punctual and looked correct (aside from the mini-translations in the title, ie nana was listed as 7, and doka they translated to bang tap) so that was why it confused me so much. But especially so as it was my first foray into the Home editions of Taiko no Tatsujin.

Anyhow, thank you very much for your help! Hopefully I should be beating my taiko on Monday!

I hope to attain another rival by then, I would think. :-)

And yeah, I really don't know why I those messages had to be approved. <.<

Haha, I can only hope my PSP skills at least somewhat translate over, I just managed to gold crown a classical song on Portable 2 which I was quite proud of ^_^

However that's probably one of the easier 9 star onis.. I'm not really that good haha

I think all first posts on Bemanistyle that contain links or certain "spam bot" words are questioned automatically by the forum.

Well my copy arrived at work today! I'll be giving it a bash when I arrive home

I did have a quick peek at it though, wow does the drum seem solidly built! Reminds me of the kind of thing I'd see on an electronic drum kit - but yeah, in seeing that I'm not going to feel as worried hammering away on it !

Wow, you really need to hit the drum harder than I expected! Good thing it's so solidly built otherwise I'd be scared of breaking it!

But yeah other than that throwing me off a little (missing some notes because of light hits etc) it's great fun! Jumped straight into hard mode and can't wait to try out oni mode.. don't think I'll be getting any perfects for a while (barring controller use) but I'll sure as hell try!

Remember to figure out ways to keep the drum stable when you unlock oni mode, since the drum isn't heavy enough to stay in one place. Try placing big text books or something similar around the drum so it stays in place a bit more.

What I do is I have a piece of 5-ply wood that I velcro my 2 drums to, and I put the piece of wood on a keyboard stand so I can play while standing up. They wont move at all.

Yeah initially I had problems with it jumping all over the place so I just sat it on a pillow and it didn't go anywhere after that.

Anyway, now that I've put a few hours into it I'm both frustrated and enjoying it.

I love taiko and all but like I mentioned before I'm finding the drum you need to hit quite hard to get it to register, which isn't necessarily a problem - I can hit hard... but keeping it up can be arduous and sometimes I find it has issues with hit detection.

Like, because I'm not exactly looking a the drum when I'm playing, occasionally I'll land a hit in the center of the drum, smack bang in the middle of the sensors for both sides of the drum, and it won't pick it up because it won't trigger either sensor...

But yeah, maybe it's just because I'm fresh to the home console versions, because on top of the occasional misses because of too light taps and center drum hits I'm a bit all over the place lol. I switched onto the standard PS2 controller to see if I had just gone crazy or that maybe because I'm using an LCD TV there was an issue with visual delay, but as soon as I was on the PS2 pad I was nailing perfects just as if I was playing the PSP versions :/

Ohwell, I guess I just need more time. My skills translate over pretty well for the most part, it's not that I'm having trouble with the songs so much but the drum has thrown me for a loop somewhat.

Dead center on the drum is just that. The sensors are actually in two parts on the face of the drum, and the center actually has a spine that isn't covered by sensors, so hitting that will result in nothing more than a miss. Once you get used to it, you'll just know where you're hitting, but it takes a while.

Just play some so you can break in the controller a bit so it's just a bit more sensitive. Eventually it will just treat you just right. Of coarse, there's maintenance to do every so often, but that's for later.

Heh, I haven't done any maintenance on my drums yet. One of em occasionally ghosts a blue note which kinda makes me mad, and the drumheads look completely covered in black (where I hit).

Heh, the face of my drum has started to go a little yellow, and I'm only a couple of days in!!

Though I think it's because it's a fresh set of drum sticks, and the orangey/yellowy plastic wore off a little.

I'm still not having too much more luck with my drumming skills unfortunately.. I think I'm a little bit better, and I feel I do a lot better where I have uninterrupted notes coming at me one after another. I just sort of go into auto mode and I'm hitting them left right and centre easily.

I think some of my problem is that I've got to judge a bit better how long it takes me to actually hit the drum from moving my hand (albeit a split second lapse of time), so it's just one of those things I've got to invest more time into to get used to, but I guess from the outset when I was doing crap I figured that'd probably be the case.

Good fun though! Just a pity that the only gold crowns I have in oni/hard mode so far are from when I went through testing how I went on the PS2 pad.

This is why I turn off auto save when I use the dualshock controllers.

Also, the ghosting issue can be fixed by opening the controller and smoothing out the corner sensors.
