Default Taiko no Tatsujin DS RECALL

So, as stated at DS fanboy, bemanistyle front page, and the Namco Donder page, it seems that the game is glitched.

Apparently, if you decide to change costumes on all three save files, the game bricks. This is the only case where it happens; it will not happen if you have two save files, nor three save files but one that remains unchanged in the costume department.

However, Namco Bandai is offering replacement cartridges; although I can't say exactly HOW. Babelfish... isn't the greatest translator.

In addition, I'm not sure how us importers are going to be treated in this instance. I just contacted Play-Asia about the recall; waiting patiently for their reply.

I'll keep people posted as soon as I get a reply- and a better translation.

Note: Middle of September will be the next printing run for Taiko DS; until then, importers that might take up all three save files might want to wait on their purchase.

As defined by Namco Bandai, "It becomes impossible to continue playing".

Thus, the game becomes as good as a brick. (term coined during the PSP homebrew hackings)

I'm not exactly willing to try, but it sounds like the game completely and totally freezes up and stays that way. The game autosaves, and it's impossible to turn this option off.

I suggest staying away from the third save file, if at all possible. Or if you haven't purchased it, wait until September.

Woah that sucks. I would think the system would get bricked, but apparently the game can. Are stores taking them back or what?

If anyone wants, I can test this out on my M3 (since I can just back up the files), and I can tell you exactly what happens and what to look out for if anything.

EDIT: Hmm, this problem must not be a problem on the ROMs, just the retail carts. I was able to make 3 characters and change costumes on all 3, and still play.

So there you have it. If you ordered from Play-Asia, consider yourself saved. If... you're willing for the long trip there and back.

This is probably not because its a rom, but because its an M3, and M3s patch games saving code so they can save to the proprietary ass formats that they use.

The same goes for R4 users, I presume?

Hmm, well this is quite unfortunate, my copy was already on the way when news of this surfaced

I'll just keep my copy I think, September is still a way off and I'll never have 3 profiles on it, but it does kind of scare me if one of my cousins ever got a hold of my DS that they could potentially brick my game inadvertantly!

It's kind of crazy that such an error could have slipped through though! but I guess the costume change is a new addition.
