Default Taiko no Tatsujin for the Import-impaired.

After buying Taiko Drum Master, I decided that I would invest in a Japanese PS2 and (among other things) begin to purchase the Japanese Taiko games. I purchased the special pack Play Asia has where you get Sandaime and Waku Waku Anime Matsuri, but I can't help but feel that there are better mixes out there.

That said, is there any particular Taiko no Tatsujin game that is considered the "best" among the players who have been playing this series for a long time, in terms of song selection and quality?

Waku waku and Sandaime are the last PS2 versions that use the 1st gen GUI. As far as best songs, that's all opinion, really. I enjoyed 6 (Wai Wai Happy! Rokudaime) a bit more than 7 (Doka! To Omori! Nanadaime), but they're both good, with 7 being the latest PS2 version, though mind you, it was released last november. That said, 6 or 7 are your best choices, with 5 (Go! Go! Godaime) following really close by.

I always thought 5 (Go Go Godaime) had a nice songlist. A few good classicals, but the main reason I play it is the namco originals. Rotterdam Nation and Koibumi2000 are always fun. I believe it also has the Rurouni Kenshin intro song in it (freckles?)

7 (Doka! To Omori! Nanadaime) is also on my list on my list with the two hardest 2000s known so far (soribon and kitasaitama). The anime section is also packed with fun sons.

I had almost forgot that DADDY MULK was in 5. It's seriously my favorite song, but the fact that 6 and 7 give me more of a challenge, it doesn't really tilt it enough in 5's favor, although it also has the theme song TRUTH, and yes, it has Sobakasu (Freckles), but it's in the J-Pop category, since it was first sung by Judy and Mary before they licensed it for Kenshin.

Yeah, I was afraid to guess what the actual name was, but i guess it was sobakasu. I do agree Daddy Mulk is fun as hell.

I like koibumi2000 because its the only 2000 I can full combo, lol. So thats one turn on to 5.

I say, start with 5 and move up.

Get 5 and above. They have the best songlists.

Oh, and also PSP 1 and PSP 2, if you have a PSP. PSP 2 has by far, the best songlist.

I only have Wai Wai Happy Rokudaime, and I thoroughly enjoy it. Some song I just can't stand, but there are some gems that really stand out, like Xevious, Tocatta and Fugue to Rock, Still a Duckling...worth the buy IMO
