Taiko no Tatsujin PS2 double-pack, how to unlock oni mode in these games?

Hey, I just recently picked up the Taiko no Tatsujin double pack for PS2, I think it's the anime super hit, and number 3 that's included in it (iirc).

First of all.. wow these games are ugly.. I know games aren't solely about the GFX (mind you it is nice and does help ), but I think I spoiled myself a bit by opting for Taiko 7 as my first PS2 taiko purchase... I just can't understand why they are so pixellated when it's simply all 2D.. it looks like the DS version! Maybe it's just the old GUI or whatever but wow did that surprise me, it's a mess..

Anyway, my appearance of taiko bashing aside, I was just wondering how you are supposed to unlock the oni mode, as these versions don't appear to have the DON points unlocking method, so is it song completion based or something else?

Also, is there any way to pause these ones? That's something I thought was very weird to be missing... it makes going for full combos really annoying, as you have to soft or hard reset to get back quicker than waiting for the song to play out...

Yeah, the pause menu mid-song wasn't implemented until Taiko CS4, as well as the DonPoints. You unlock Oni by either unlocking all the hidden songs, or it unlocks automatically after 3 hours of play, both Sandaime and Waku Waku Anime Matsuri (real name).

Also, although the interface isn't the greatest-looking, it still has some really good songs, just know that the charts are out-of-date, like in Saitama2000 and MekaDesu.

Yeah, I'm definitely not writing the games off due to their appearance or anything, it's just a bit jarring after playing Taiko 7, as they're 2D games I expected them to all look like that, but maybe with the little scenes down the bottom being a little less complex in the earlier versions (like portable 1, to portable 2) and just little tweaks but yeah it's quite different visually.

As for the hidden songs.. how do you go about unlocking those?
