And I agree that there's a lot of artistic genius that is being promoted in these games.
Even if you have no idea how to play the game, listening to the music and watching the BGAs is already an experience by itself [with an added bonus of watching a competent player].
I'll let you in on a little secret. For all the bluster I spout about knowing the series inside-out, I got a PSP last month and CE/BS arrived about four days ago.
Proposed-Flower-Wolf 4B (Where the lanes disappear three times throughout gameplay to showcase the BGA) has to be one of the top video game experiences of all time for me.
And that's barely scratching the surface. Remember the first time playing stuff like Ray of Illuminati or Oblivion or Outlaw back on the original online game?
As much as I like bemani music and as much as I enjoy IIDX, the entire series just never ever had the same amount impact (Although listening to the full version of ANTI-ARES came close, along with maybe Votum Stellarum forest#25 - yes, I'm a sucker for piano) Add that to the fact that even though music is subjective, I'd pop in DJMAX stuff into a car CD player without a second thought, but I'd have to think twice for bemani stuff depending who's in the car.
Wait till three years down the road and new shit blows PFW out of the water and we'll see if PFW gets old. You'll hear the piano intro and go FFFFFFF TURN IT OFF AAAAUGH.
