OK fellas, I called Game Works in Grapevine, Texas and they said they do have Technika on their list for May or June. Is it true? I don't know but I now have hope.

That sounds about right - the game's supposed to be shipping soon, so May/June sounds like a reasonable timeframe.

I got a message this morning saying that a location in SoCal has their machine and has cards in stock. I'm going to check it out after work an confirm. If so, it would make sense since the machines should be shipping any time now.

Edit: False alarm. They were shown a picture from another test location. Probably the break.

Yeah I would expect the first batch of cabinets to start arriving at locations starting next week.

So far as rank goes, it's apparently based on your total max accumulated, not counting whatever you've spent on modifiers and such? Correct? And wow that's a lot of ranks.

BTW, me and some friends checked out Funfuzion in NY last night. Despite what the written advertisement says, the unlimited Wednesday deal does NOT apply to Technika (or any other semi-new game there.) If you live around here, do yourself a favor and travel the extra hour to play at The Break instead, you'll be glad you did.

That's what I'm going to assume; there's really no other way I can interpret it Actually, that would explain a lot on how I was able to get to Rookie before Corey did while playing less than him.

An interesting thing to note is that they mark Beginner as "5000 points", which means that they do include the first 5000 points you recieve. What I'm unsure about is whether or not each level jump is "this is what you get it at" or "this is how much more (on top of the previous EXP) you need". One of these days I'll end up doing a test or something, but I want to say that it's the former - 2500 points to get to Trainee (as opposed to 7500 points to get to Trainee) on a new card.

Yeah you automatically start with 5000 pts and Beginner rank when you register your card on the machine.

I'd say 2500 to get Trainee rank sounds about right, since me and Pakachu started new cards on Monday and are already back at Amateur. He also played with mods a few times, and leveled up before I did.

I've updated my Technika guide with pre-emptive songlists (scroll down a bit for the links). Once PlatCrew comes up I'll try to keep that as updated as possible.

In the meantime, Dan, I'm curious - please do me a favor: look at your US card and see whether or not there's an address for the Platinum Crew site on the card? On the Korean cards, they had it in the upper-left hand corner of the face of the card, but on the US designs, they seem to not exist!

Nope no website printed on it. If you look at the front page post of bms, the back of the card it reads exactly like the last image there (but with a serial code of course.) The color of the back matches the color of the front-bottom stripe of the card.

O.K. I've got some Technika News:

I just got back from an open house at American Vending Sales in Elk Grove Illinois. The owner (I'm totally blanking on his name) of 8otB was there showing off a test model of Technika. I'm not sure what build it was, and even if people asked me specific questions about the build to try to jog my memory it won't work, so don't.

This is the important stuff people will want to know.

I was quoted a price BELOW TEN THOUSAND DOLLARS for the game. Not by much, but it's safe to say that the game will sell around $10k in most areas.

I was also told that the first production models are due to show up in the states early next week. Whether or not they show to port as planned depends on a lot of factors, but it looks like the game will start shipping out in the next two weeks.

That's the important stuff people want to know.

Impressions of the game among open house guests and other vendors ranged from "not bad" to "DAYUM." I'm talking about grizzled industry veterans doing a double take at the cabinet and how it plays. The Incredible Technologies representatives in particular were impressed with the cabinet and kept sneaking peeks at it between talking to people. A MEI rep got hooked on the game and was fighting to pass a 2 star. I managed to clear WhiteBlue by the end of the house.

Dammit I want one of these now.

Well, played some more technika found some interesting things, or not. But yeah..... Apparently once someone gets an S, its impossible to take back the score. I watch my friend S first kiss, then my other friend S it too and he didn't take the score. To me it kinda sucks cause, pretty much over S'ed a song gets to keep it for life.

Another thing is trying to figure out how scoring system works. I played Remember PP and I got 1 cool and my score around 16ish and I was trying to beat my score which was 17ish with 4 cools and a good. How does that work?

Lastly. That other test location machine in New Roc, those korean scores are unbelievely hard to beat. I only manage to take a few from them. Also you can't spell FunFuzion without FU, that's how horrible the place was. I mean technika even gave random misses.

Yup, that's pretty much it. At SVGL, it basically became a race to see who can "tag" a song first.

One of our regulars, Yan, played Pop so much you saw her name on a good chunk of songs because she PC'd the crap out of them.

To be honest, those Korean scores probably belong to the developers of the game. Michael and Kalos have told me stories about how good most of them are. He also mentioned that we play the game out here in a completely different style than they do in Korea. I'm going to see if we can get some video footage at some point or something to see what he means :p

Hm, that's interesting. Of all the videos I've seen, the only difference I can spot is that they abuse the "drag detection" exploit - the one where you can drag across a line of fast regular notes and have them all count instead of hitting them individually - a shitload.

Here's one video, for starters. This guy's pretty damn good.

Could be similar to Portable 1/2/CE/BS, where the latter notes count more than the beginning ones. I also tried to take the Remember PP score, and didn't get anywhere near. I mean, 14k. If that. My game was really off... but I think that's more the machine than my actual playing.

Yeah, FunFuzion is a pretty shitty place, sorry to say... dear god, place the damn thing in Dave and Busters in Times Square or CTF- THAT's your main demographic. 10-year-old kiddies that want to cheat on skeeball? Not so much.

Exactly. Also on a NY/Funfuzion-related note, a friend of ours that went with us on Wednesday wrote up a great review that sums up our experience there quite nicely.
