Default How hard is the timing window in this game compared to IIDX?

This is mostly out of curiosity than anything else. Assuming that a person is playing DJ Max on Normal without any artificial upgrades, would the timing window be approximately the same as the IIDX timing window? If not, how different is it?

Harder, plus assuming you're comparing to an arcade machine (or a KOC/DAO -> PS2 -> good TV) you have to deal with different amounts of delay as well.

Most significant thing though is that the judgement windows are at least in part based on BPM, so faster songs get significantly harder in terms of judgement.

If we're comparing MAX 100% to a flashing great then I'd say it's quite significantly easier than IIDX, at least on moderate-tempo songs.

So to put both of your replies together, it would be easier to button mash and catch notes in IIDX, but it would be harder to get a AAA/100% clear?

I dunno, it feels a lot harder to 100% with absolutely no gear than it does to flashing-great for most 140bpm++ songs for me. With max +TECH, it's ridiculously easy though, although difficulty scales back up for really fast songs like Nightmare or Leave it up to the Wind (Live)

Combo, on the other hand; DJMAX has always been a good laugh in terms of comboing - you mash buttons and even 1%'s register as combo (And you don't lose that much HP doing it too). Even though the game isn't that much about combo (see: multipliers, combo carrying over) it does earn the franchise some derision.

I'm tempted to say look at the top scores for both games just to compare how 'difficult' gameplay is for either (since thanks to communities like this often the best players are the same ones), except that most DJMAX scores posted have a bunch of +TECH on them.

I'll say it this way: There is NO 100% in IIDX. NO EXCEPTION. (at least for harder songs than Normal) The game gives you an A grade for 60%.
So yes, DJMAX and all its' friends are eaiser.

actually the answer to this question depends on which game you are talking about,
if you're talking about trilogy (with no tech), I would say, it is a bit easier to get a 100% compared to a flashing great.
in portable 2+, normal mode, it's quite easier
and, in hard mode it's about the same difficulty (maybe a bit harder)

Not true, ez2on (and ez2dj I guess) is harder (it takes more effort to get a KOOL than to get a flashing great)

It seems to me that the window of MAX no tech is the same size as the sum of normal and flashing great.

Well, but the fact still exists that no one can 100% IIDX songs on Hyper or Another levels. (by the way, those have nothing to do with the timing window.) But, well, I do consider DJMAX more human-friendly than IIDX...
