KOTC2 - DJ Max Technika Tournament (August 23, 8otB, New Jersey)

As part of the annual Kings of the Coast tournament weekend (August 21st - 23rd, 8 on the Break, New Jersey, USA) we will be having a Technika division this year. The actual Technika tournament will occur on Sunday August 23rd, check schedule for estimated start time.

In addition to the cash pool prize, it is VERY likely (though not 100% confirmed) that Pentavision/PM Studios will be contributing some DJ Max-related prizes for some of the top players.

Any comments/questions related to the Technika tournament can be posted here (as I will be hosting it), questions related to the weekend schedule or other games should be directed towards Jimbo @ AIJ.

MOST CURRENT TOURNAMENT RULES (subject to change):
DJ Max Technika: $5
-This will be a gauntlet-style tournament.
-Each round will consist of a pre-determined 3 song (Pop mode) set. Sets will not be announced until the start of each round.
-During the first round, people will play in a random order.
-Scoring is determined by cumulative money scores (aka total score.)
- In the event of a fail-out, only the songs that the player cleared will be counted towards their total score.
-All participants play the same song(s) in each round, and the people with the lowest scores get eliminated. From that point on, the people with the lowest advancing scores will play first, and the ones with highest advancing scores play will last.
-Elimination will depend on the amount of participants. Regardless, the second to last round will consist of the top 4 people, and the final round will consist of the top 2 people. Semi-finals and finals will be played on Technical mode.

Actual start time will depend on when DDR ends during the event on Sunday the 23rd.

I... will most likely be there, if not for the 4th Mix plus tourney.

Will registration take place on a separate day like previous KOTC? I really don't want to travel to Dunellen just to register on friday and then come back on sunday...

EDIT: Also, how will failures during TM be dealt with? I mean, is there an event mode option in Technika where you can get your score even if you game over?

Yes, you can register on Sunday if you are only entering for Technika.

Far as TM mode, i'll be writing down each song score during the set, so only those scores will be counted if there's a fail-out. I'll also try to have someone recording the semi-finals/finals in case we need to go back and check a score.

For anyone curious about each round's songs/scores/etc, you can download the complete excel .xls file HERE. This is the same data that I broadcasted from my laptop throughout the tournament for everyone, so it's an interesting read and could be useful if anyone else decides to run a Technika tournament using my format.

I don't think many people got videos of the tournament, but please post them online somewhere if you did.
