ROCK BAND Stage Kit... ITS AWESOME!

Yesterday, I was deciding if I was going to grab fallout, or the rock band stage kite. My friends were influencing me to get fallout 3, but I am more of a music game guy, so i picked up the stage kit. I went over to my friends, and once again thet told me it was the dumbest buy ever. But I brought it in, and we hooked it up, and everyone changed their mind. Even I was in shock when I found that the stage kit is damn awesome. Later we went to this girls house who had like 20 other people over, we brought the stage kit, and RB2. Everyone thought it was great, and congratulated me on the buy.

For those of you that think this peripheral is really lame, you just have not see the thing in action. Here is some stuff you may not know, that may influence you to buy it...

-the fog machine shoots out alot of fog... I was actually surprised.
-The actual peripheral changes light ti pitch, and other elements in the song.
-the light show has about 4/5 different colors, and about 20 lights total on the thing.
-The strobe light is really awesome when your playing drums, makes you look like you are going in slow motion, and it goes with the pedal, and other drums VERY well.
-the fog machine shoots out so much fog, it will completely cover you room in fog.
-the light show has a magnifying glass, that lets you move up and down to change the lights size when it hits a wall, or goes through fog.
-the light show is REALLY awesome when the lights go through fog, because you can actually see the light beam.

I only have about 3 negatives, but they are completely shot down by the holy stage kits positives themselves itself.
-fog machine is sort-of big
-the light show's cord is very short that connects to the fog machine, so dont expect the cord to go from one side of the room to the other, it wont reach to the other side of my TV.
-your going to want to aim the fog machine a little a way from you, because it really shoots out fog far, and when it does, you could be choking on the stuff.

I may post some pictures of it in action if you are interested. We took some last night at a Halloween party, but they were not very good, because the xbox that we were using it on fell (someone tripped on it), and it ate the rock band 2 disc. So we never got great pictures.

I mean, is there anything any more extreme we can do to enforce the popular opinion that we play rhythm games to literally pretend we're in a band?

In all seriousness though, I am glad to hear that someone actually bought one of these and used it and made a mini review. Looks neat, but not something I would probably ever buy....

yes, it was a unbelievably hard decision. I am so much more happier I got the stage kit. It worth it if you have friends to play with, and play rock band alot like I do.

So does it hook up via USB and is actually controlled by the game? Or does it just all work independently from the game?

It's all controlled by the game. They programmed fog and lighting cues for EVERY song in the game, even in Rock Band 1.

Omega, could you look in the manual for me and see if it says anything about using it as a DMX-512 controller? That's stage lighting standard, and I'm doing RB nights at a place with a DMX-512 setup. Thanks.

unfortunately the manual is VERY brief. and yes the lights and fog are triggered by the song itself. The stage kit has to be plugged directly into one of the USB ports on the 360, or it wont work. It also was picky with controllers at my friends house, but when I went home and tried it, it worked fine for me.

When I get back from a trip to naperville, I will take pictures. My friend put some up on facebook, but only one was a good picture.

the trees (by rush), was probably the coolest light show I have seen with the machine so far. I may take a video instead of uploading pictures. Also when you do that big finishes, the fucking light show goes fucking crazy.

EDIT: well if the con is going to use Rock Band for their "Battle of the Bands" shit, I might buy it for them. BUt it looks like they might use GH4 and it's horrible song list.

its not cheap, but I have been having alot of fun with it.
Oh, and it does come with fog juice in case you were wondering.
