So, seeing as the PS2 is pretty much phased out in the US, and will likely suffer the same fate in Japan... where do you guys think Bemani and Company is going to go from there? What's going to happen to the giant pile of controllers we all have stored up in the years of Playstation and PS2 releases?
I'm sure this has been brought up before (at least tangentally or something) -- but discuss?

So far I think the ONLY advantage to moving on up is being able to have more songs on the game disc and the use of DLC.
And seems rather unfortunate that Microsoft could not get off their lazy asses and make the Ultramix games work on the 360, so it seems compatibility issues aren't going to go away anytime soon.

I told others this, and I'm not going to be surprised if this happens. FACT: The PS3 is region free and as of right now, has no way of playing backed up Playstation 3 titles.
I'm sure Konami knows this, and because of all the piracy with Bemani related games, I can see them switching to PS3.

I'm sure they'd lose more sales by switching over to a system not many people have than they are currently losing to piracy

Also having more songs would be nice but until the things are final, we can only wait and see what BEMANI will do.

Those are all 3rd party, and they work just fine. Konami doesn't make "unofficial" controllers (for lack of a better term). Their stuff always has the PlayStation logo on it, which means they are officially "sanctioned" peripherals. Whatever problems some people are running into are problems I don't think Konami would run into.

I just bet once consoles start selling in Japan only, we'll be seeing Bemani on the PS3. Possibly another year or so after all the lined up games for 2008/2009 come out.

When was the last time you played IIDX and watched the video anytime other than when you have a free measure or you put it on auto play? Exactly.
Konami doesn't need to make any switches right now since that would alienate a majority of their userbase.
Other than more space per disk (and no, you still couldn't fit the IIDX14 HDD on one disk.) there are no real draws to making your userbase rebuy everything and upgrade, Sony brand official adapter or not.

I think Next-gen Bemani might come in a long time. I still wish Konami would release an SN2 port for the PS3, with all remaining songs that aren't on the NA CS PS2 version.

Total Tokens: 438.80 Donate Tokens | There is really no need to go to PS3 (or Wii or 360 for that matter) for an increase in storage on the disc. Home version of most Bemani games are only 1-2GBs. With the ability to fit 8.5GB on a dual layer DVD (that the PS2 is capable of reading) it would a super compilation containing all of the songs of at least 10 Bemani games to fill a dual layer DVD (barring any major changes to the engine and interface of course).
