Default Choosing games requiring special controllers

Hi,

My wife and I are trying to decide on getting into rhythm/music games that require special controllers. We are thinking of getting 3 or 4 of these.

We love rhythm games, and recently got a pop ‘n music mini controller which we love.

We were thinking of Guitar Hero, but we have no idea what platform to get it for. We have a ps2, ps3, xbox 360 and Wii, as well as a lot of retro consoles. Which would be the best platform?

We were also thinking of Beatmania.

My wife is interested in trying a drumming game, but we aren’t sure which one to try? Donkey Konga on the Gamecube, Taiko: Drum Master/ Taiko no Tatsujin, DrumMania, or something else?

Is there any other game(s) that we should try that require a special controller?

I’ve done lots of research but I want to get opinions from people who have actually played lots of this type of game.

Thanks for any suggestions!

You've nailed most (if not all) of them.
Another music game requiring a special controller is Keyboardmania.

If you want to get a good Pop'n experience, buy an Arcade Style Controller from DJDAO

Welcome To DJDAO Bemania Arcade Style Controller Website

The thread for DJDAO controllers are somewhere in the Pop'n Music section. I think it's a sticky.

Guitar Hero is a good way to start out with rhythm games because it has a steady learning curve, but for learning to actually play along with a rhythm not OMG NOTES, I would only recommend Guitar Hero 2 (PS2 or 360, 360 version has more songs and downloadable songs) and Rock Band/Rock Band 2.

Other fun rhythm games that are best played with special controllers are:

Dance Dance Revolution/In The Groove
Pump It Up
Beatmania I/IIDX
Taiko No Tatsujin
Guitar Freaks
and Drummania
