on a related note, whoever decided it would be cool to re-direct http://djdao.com to Desktop Arcade's website is a huge douchebag. That's a really low way to drum up business.

I'll take credit for being the douchebag in question. How is that a low way of doing business?

Buying up domains and selling them to do whatever you please is a legitimate business. All in all I say this is a fine move on Steve's behalf to purchase a competitors domain and use it for his own purposes.

After all, this is survival of the fittest, don't you know? Or are you bemanitards too fanboyish to comprehend such a concept?

This is really not all that related, although the surprise humor is not wasted on me. Whoever did it please know I did have quite the laugh when I saw it redirect.

On another note of that whole topic, if you think such a stupid tactic is going to "drum up business" then you don't give your fellow bemani players that much credit. If someone is looking for DJ Dao's website and ends up being redirected to Desktop Arcade's site then obviously they're going to go wtf and try again. I'm really surprised Dao didn't grab up the name when the site was opened to begin with since djdao.com is a hell of alot easier to remember than whatever it is now.

So how about stop acting like a fan boy about it and let Dao's owner, sorry I'm terrible with names and don't really give much of a shit about their stuff so long as they aren't starting shit with us, take of this himself.

I'm not a 'fanboy' for respecting dao's business. You're sure quick to jump to using shitty buzzwords to attack me like that. If, for example, you typed in wal-mart.com instead of walmart.com and were directed to Target's webpage (obviously an example), there would be something seriously wrong with that. It's a bad business practice to snipe addresses similar to a competitor's.

Sure, Dao should have picked up on a few other similar domain names, but I'm not him and I can't speak for him about that part. Do you think Steve would think it's as funny if Dao were to register http://www.desktop-arcade.com/?

If anyone here is jumping the gun and judging before thinking, it's you.

When the competitor exists and sells the same product and you use their name as your URL, even if it is an alternate, it's copyright infringement and a "bait and switch" tactic. If Pepsi were to purchase Coca-Cola.com and redirect it to their site because Coke only registered CocaCola.com, they'd be in a legal world of shit.

The same happened to an old Dreamcast scene site that registered the URL "dcsega.com", they received a C&D from Sega of America and with good reason. Someone typing in that URL might mistake their site for the official Sega Dreamcast site and take offense to the content, and the same goes here. If someone doesn't know better and goes to djdao.com, they may end up buying a Desktop Arcade controller by mistake. That's pretty shitty, even if that wasn't your intent.

Okay I didn't really mean for this to escalate this quickly, or even at all, I just wanted a straight answer as to why a competitor would even bother to register such a thing.

Sukunai, get this straight - I'm not a 'fanboy' or any other word you want to toss out there - I've worked with kaizoku and djdao in making the dao website. I speak on his behalf because I know he won't (or CAN'T) speak on his own.

Really what do you expect us to do about it? Neither of us want a repeat of the drama that happened with Ransai. So why would we bother making such an obviously low blow?

Running on here when you've shown very little to no interest in Desktop Arcade's products in the past few months so what am I to think when your first post back on here is a finger wag you at a stunt you assume we pulled.

To be honest I make more doing commissions for cosplayers than doing artwork for DA so I could really care less when it comes to this "rivalry" so long as DA does well enough for us to be comfortable.

Also thanks Dewgy for seperating this little bump in the road from the main topic of the thread.

Jesus, would you go back and read my original post? I didn't call out Steve at all, I said "whoever did it". I wasn't placing the blame on Steve, and I sure wasn't placing the blame on you because I don't even know who you are, other than that you do art commissions.

No, I don't show interest in steve's work because I'm not a fan of the 'customization' stuff he does. Lots of people do, and good for them, but my opinions on how controllers look for a video game isn't here nor there. Would you have rathered I made a brand new thread in the IIDX forum? You sound like you're treated D-A threads like they are completely seperate from the rest of Bemanistyle when you say "your first post back here". Take a step off your soapbox for just a second and view this a little more rationally, please? Of course I'm going to go right to source when I discover something like this. Who else would I go to other than the owner of the site in question?

Sarah above me took good care of this one. The future of Desktop Arcade is changing, and not to spoil anything, but everyone involved (myself included) will be going hobbyist at the beginning of 2008. It's been a fun ride, and DA will continue, just in a smaller scale than we even are now. But, don't consider this throwing in the towel, I just need to devote more time to my education so I'm not the 40 year old graduate.

So, to answer your question, the competitor did not register such a thing.

Well I'd appreciate it if whoever did do it undoes it. It looks bad for you, it's bad business, and it's extremely disrespectful.

Thanks Steve, you answered the question I had from the start. Best of luck with where you're taking D-A.

Like Dewgy said, it'd be nice if whoever did it would un-do it. It could really reflect poorly on your business, depending on who looks at it

Just to finish this post up after my last reply, this is not being said assholeishly by the way, so do not take it as such:

One piece of the puzzle you may not even know if you're not familiar with Deskop Arcade is that my mascot's name is "DJDA", my mascot's name has ALWAYS been "DJDA" and, it's been "DJDA" before DJ DAO even existed.

If Target's Mascot the bullseye was called "Wal-Mar" and Wal Mart came along and named their company similarly to another company's mascot, well, for one thing, there'd be a huge law suit and Wal Mart would have to find another name.

But, this isn't the business world, it's the Bemani Community where guys like myself, Scott from Ransai, Eddie from here, DM Ashura, and some other guys try to make some spare coin doing what we love, and helping to grow the community in our own ways. No one makes boatloads of cash off the Bemani community outside of Konami, so don't think that this is some multi billion dollar power play, or even a multi-thousand dollar power play. It's not even a power play.

By the way, thanks for the suggestion - I just regged desktop-arcade.com in case someone happened upon it looking for DA.

You're making a mandate that all discussion about your extreme dick attempt at stealing business stop? Who the fuck do you think you are?
