Yeah who is that? | HOLD IT!
Okay, so you complain about Erika's and Riyu's voice being 'squeaky' and lots of people complain about them... but what about the numberless OTHER vocalists who are HORRIBLE that go unnoticed.
No one even batted an eye at END OF THE CENTURY. Or any of NAOKI's vocalists run pretty low for whatever reason. Paula Terry's a meh, whoever sung Kiss Kiss Kiss should be shot, 1998 was really, really bad and face it, B4U, Brilliant2U and my favorite RED ZONE didn't have GOOD vocalists, actually, they were BAD. There voice was just strange near monotone. And who did the horrible Snoop Dogg impersonation on Do You Love Me? And what about SO IN LOVE? Or yes, Captain Jack's were, while lovable, just weird at times. (HI-HO). And smile.dk's are just funny in a very... J-Pop way... heh.
So I've probably pissed a good 60% of you off, HEAR ME OUT.
What's weird is that there are some REAL gems out there in the Bemani scene. Erika is excellent, really able to hit really emoted, colourful notes. Yes, colourful. It's rare that I find colour in vocals, or even pay much attention to them. But there you go. Colour.
Sana.
I personally like Des-ROW's album vocals. They were raw, under-produced and fit the tone of all the songs perfectly. And 'THE PLACE TO BE' ROCKED.
EeL's vocalist is great. Her voice almost just colors in the music so that it's never to drawing *coughENDOFTHECENTURYcough* and it's never a PAIN TO ENDURE *coughENDOFTHECENTURYcough*
And correct me if I'm wrong... I want to say "Junko Hirata" who works closely with Tatsh. She's very good. Though her vocals don't WOW me, they are definitely pleasurable to listen to.
yeh, yeh. | |

A/I | My guess is that HAL is one unique person, as her name appears that way in official production infos. Don't know about the others though.
On the side, I'm wondering if Yuu Tokiwa (Murmur Twins singer) is the same person who sang Apocalypse ~dirge of swans~. It sounds a lot like her.

She sounds like a child squealing her lines out, and even if I liked her, Taka's absolutely horrible music in MOON and LESSON 5 drowns out her vocals to what would otherwise be decent vocals in otherwise decent songs. She reminds me of Noria....that's not a good thing.
The worst BEMANI singer is still YUKI, though (no, NOT the Yuki from Aoi Shoudo / Blue Impulse). She sang those god-awful MIRACLE songs in pop'n music 7 and 8 CS, and she recently sang the equally annoying MUSHIBA WALTZ in Iroha CS. Quote: |

| Des-ROW kinda sounds drunk and/or weird when he sings at times. Too Late Two kinda creeps me out with his vocals. Yep, unlike her more-or-less successor, Dormir. *shudder* Can't we have more than a few singers in BEMANI that DON'T sound like ten year-olds?
I can think of plenty of other negelcted singers as well.
Aundrea Hopkins.
Hashimoto Akiko (akko's).
The girl who sang PHOTONGENIC in beatmania IIDX 9th style CS.
Minami Fujino (PARQUETS).
Nagasawa Yurika (Luv to Me English versions, Hold on Me, Love Fire).

You'll hardly find anyone there that can sing low notes. That's just a function of the area. Quote:

| Maiko Horisawa 「堀澤麻衣子」, and quoted for emphasis. I couldn't agree more. She had a powerful, yet compelling voice that went perfectly with the song. It's also one of the reasons I'm anxiously awaiting their next song: Dawn -The Next Endeavour-.
And for the record, Eel isn't the vocalist for Eel -- she *is* Eel. Tomosuke is just her sound producer.

As for my take (the real me), I would say that I prefer low voices over high ones, but I don't really mind high voices that much. I would, however, have to comment that there are some Japanese female vocalists with relatively lower voices such as Junko Hirata and Miharu Arisawa from BeForU. If we want to get into mainstream, there's Koda Kumi too.

Can't say that I agree with all the singers methods either.. XD

But also seconding the nameless band colors. They have more stuff for GFDM than IIDX, and every song is pure gold. Who is "colors"??
edit:
the singer for Apocolypse ~dirge of swans~ is probably the same singer for Blind Justice (To each his own), in which case i doubt it is Yuu Tokiwa, but it is possible, because in both Blind Justice and Chocolate Philosophy, she does random vocal jumps, and her vocals are just as indisguishable. Any verifications?

This can be seen on the tracklisting in cyber beatnation 1st conclusion.

I must say that this version of Scenario is a horrible representation of Miharu's voice (yeah, she's the lead in that song). In fact, she is my favorite vocalist out of the 6, and does a great job in pretty much any other song where you can hear her (ie. "I am" album version). In GF/DM Scenario, however, it sounds like she's singing under water or something.
