Sana (Sanae Shintani)

Lovely Sana. You have to give her credit. She's done dozens of songs for a ton of Bemani games and collaborated with many other Bemani artists, and even has 5 full albums (including her Pop'n Music Artist Collection.) Although she's not really doing anything new, she's classic, and I feel this thread should be here. She's pretty much my favorite vocalist ever, followed by Lia and Junko Hirata.

Question: In the song "流星☆ハニー " is the first word Ryusei or Ryuusei, or does it even make a difference? I see it both ways and I've always wondered about it.

It all depends on how you romanize (Hepburn vs Kunrei-shiki) 流星. Because what you type in the computer is 'ryuusei' so most people tend to romanize it like that. (Kunrei-shiki method) However, there are some people who romanize it as 'ryusei' (technically supposed to be ryūsei to avoid confusion, Hepburn system) Either one is correct though.

And I personally find a lot of Sana's songs musically... very boring. Even though she's got a really good voice. (Plus, she's hot too. Especially in that third picture you posted. ) My favourite songs by her are The Shining Polaris, INJECTION OF LOVE and Ryuusei * Honey. Jelly Kiss isn't too bad either.

It's either I don't like her pop sound too much or I just really like her when she's singing trance - but then again that's probably because I was introduced to her via The Shining Polaris in DDR.

The heck? Those just happened to be the exact same songs I prefer from her most. I'll also want to say that the L.E.D. style mixes of Everyday Lovely Day & Miracle Moon are pretty cute, and I like how her voice goes with the modern classical ambience in Maria.

Anyway, I've noticed that she used to frequent the IIDX CS games, but from the best of my knowledge, has stayed primarily in Pop'n. And if I'm not mistaken, she seems to be continuing her work, but I dunno. わたしのフォーティーン （フィーバー戦士ポップン14 EDテーマ） is in Pop'n 14, correct? And is she in Pop'n 15?

And snow, I remember reading that you found a source that she's 40 years old right now. I can't seem to find it though.

LOL, all songs listed above are my favorites too, with the exception of Maria (which I haven't heard yet.) But add to that list more deep v2.1. <3 I don't know what it is about that song that grabs me, but I love it too much.

When I first heard the full version of The Shining Polaris (first Bemani artist CD I ever bought and have NOT looked back), I died. It's just a fantastic piece of music. In contrast, the extended version of Ryuusei☆Honey wasn't anywhere near as good as the short version (what happened Akira Yamaoka?)

And, yes, I agree that her trance/dance music far outweighs her pop stuff, but there are a few nice tracks in this album that are poppish (eg. T'en va pas).

But damn, she's aging well if she is hitting her forties.

And I'm agreeing with Loserbait here about The Shining Polaris. L.E.D. earned major points for me from that. (But nothing beats Photongenic, my favourite L.E.D. vocal led song.) Sana's got such a unique voice and I really admire her for the fact that she's led a pretty good music career and still managed to work in Konami's offices as an OL. (At least, that's what I've gathered about her - that she still worked for Konami as an OL and as a vocalist.)

EDIT: Random, but that picture of Sana and the long cat reminds of the fact that I have a similar one of Noria.

Wow Robo you're more obsessed than me, maybe you should have started this thread! Where can I find more information on these works? I haven't heard of any of them, except for the Coyote Ragtime ending. But I haven't actually heard that one myself.

I agree with Loserbait on Ryuusei☆Honey. I actually heard the long version first, and I liked it, but when I heard the short version, I stopped listening to the long one completely. (I agree on The Shining Polaris as well, but that's such an amazing song that it doesn't really need to be stated.)

Nice Noria pic, kanna! It makes me wonder if any of BeForU is good friends with Sana. And if they are, why haven't they tried a collaboration with her? (They DID give "Special thanks" to her on BeForU II.) I think it could work. Sana can do any type of music.

However, each version has something the other one doesn't, so I actually listen to them both. And yeah, the long version of The Shining Polaris is 10x better than the original.

Anyway, as for other random things she's done, I heard that she sang at least something in a Suikoden series soundtrack. Also, she sung in one of the Zone of the Enders soundtracks, which makes sense since it was sound produced by L.E.D., who has a few ties to Sana (Maiko Horisawa of PHOTONGENIC & DAWN -The Next Endeavor sings a few things in there too). I don't have much more info on these, but I suppose Robo would know.

The BeForU II thing is a mystery to everyone here, as far as I know.

For Suikoden II she did the song "Faraway Star" which is really quite beautiful, it's one of my top slow songs by her. (Beware-Engrish, but pretty Engrish ^^) YouTube - Faraway Star

Wow, that's much more than I never knew about! Ahh, must hear more Sana!

I think for the trancey stuff we forgot Rainbow Flyer. I looove that song with her vocals and taka's awesomeness.

Anyway, my all time favorite song is more deep v2.1 and v3.7. The song has such a great ambient feel to it. First time i played it on DDR i was like.... *_*
