I play music games for the music, not the gameplay so I may even go lower for the 8's. This is on an ITG rating scale btw. DDR i just play the music I like regardless the fact that Bag is a 10 (I'm the old school 1x no bar player) and then also do stuff like V, Abyss, Burning Heat. Guess most of them fall to iidx -> ddr.

I can score very well on most 10s and love practicing the harder 11s. I can pass a few 12s but no 13s, so those were out of the question for me.

I normally play 9s though as they are hard enough to enjoy, but easy enough I know I can clear them if I try. Judging on DDR scale.

I like to play 11's because most of them provide a fairly easy, yet fun challenge for me (Charlene, Robotix, Xuxa). On the other hand, certain 11's are a pain in the ass, but I still enjoy playing them (July, Monolith, Hardcore Symphony). I also like to play 12's because the stepcharts provide a decent challenge for me (!, HOTN, Bloodrush, Dterminator). If I had to choose one over the other, then I would say that 11's are my favorite difficulty to play on.

But seriously, I prefer 9 footers (noteworthy of mentioning are AFRONOVA Primeval, Be Lovin', Captain Jack, and Irresistiblement) and some 10 footers. 9 footers, to me, have challenging yet doable steps (excluding Cartoon Heroes), while the previous difficulties 7 and below lack any true difficulty. I can pass 10 footers but only on a random basis. I can easily A Sakura on Heavy but PARANOiA Survivor seems to be my wall due to its difficulty to sight read and the fact that wasting too much of your energy can tire you out before you even get a quarter of the way through (I haven't even made it to the death runs yet.)
I haven't even touched 11 or 12 footers yet, and I don't intend to until I've mastered the ten footers.
This is only DDR, though. When it comes to Pump It Up, I am all but useless. I can only do a Crazy 9 or a Hard 7, tops, mostly because it's hard to read clumps of arrows that are the exact same color.

Total Tokens: 112,142.45 Donate Tokens | Pad: Definitely 9's! I can pass very few 10's (only bag and Sakura), and the 9 foot charts are challenging and fun (for me) without being overwhelming (except for Healing Vision (Angelic Mix) and Cartoon Heroes). In addition, I can full combo some 9 footers. In addition, there are a few good 8 foot charts.
Keyboard: 11-13. Those charts are very fun and challenging. I can full combo many 11's and some 12's. I barely passed VerTex^2 (Expert) on keyboard without a speed mod, but it was still a very fun chart.
