Default X mod is cheating?

What do you think? There was discusion on IRC about X mods, are they making game too easy, are they cheating or should they be used? Poll is about ITG / DDR style games.

My synopsis: If it's in the game (aka speed mods and anything else on the Options menu), it's not cheating. If it's not in the game (aka Gameshark, Codebreaker, etc.), it's cheating.
The bar in DDR arcade machines is not cheating either. It's there for a purpose, the support your weight so you can move your feet faster. If it was cheating, it wouldn't be there.

The whole bar argument is thus: Some people think that the purpose of the bar is (IIRC as Konami has stated in their patent of the DDR Machine design) to stop people from falling over and hurting themselves/suing their arcade/konami over it; that the purpose is only to support you if you're going to fall over. IMO, anyone who argues about it isn't worth anyone's time arguing back.
I agree that using Gameshark etc is 'cheating' and using speed mods, note, etc is not. Both are perfectly acceptable, as long as you don't try and pass off things like saying 'I AAA'd MAX300 HEAVY' when you were really using Little. But that's not even cheating, it's just lying.
Short answer: Options menu != cheating.

dude your poll is lacking two things...

1. Not cheating... but dosen't make it asier or harder...

2. An Other option for people that have a view departing from those narrow options...

Does it make the game easier? No.
Does it make reading the steps easier? Yes.
Is it cheating? No. If you want to challenge yourself, just take the speed mods off. It's as simple as that.

I would like to say it's cheating, but I learned my lessen after having a few agruments. *Shudder...

Of course it makes the game easier, it obviously makes the game easier, anyone who says it doesn't make it easier obviously doesn't play enough.

I guess if you're willing to use them they make the game easier for you to read. Plain and simple. I probably would have progressed a lot slower, especially in reading the MAX/Paranoia songs if I hadn't used them.

The problem for me is after a long time of being used to liberal speed mod use, I'm having a hard time adjusting to 1x on Oni mode D:

This is just as bad as Bar vs. No Bar.

I use speed mods for IIDX, not DDR. I just don't need them.

i don't think using speed mods is cheating. because no matter what speeds the arrows are moving at, the step patterns will remain the same difficulty.

According to NAOKI, using any speed mod is cheating! BAG FTW!!! XD

I chose the third option. It's not really cheating. It's just a matter of preference. Some people prefer the songs to scroll slower. Other people read better when it's faster...

Only exception is bag.... XD

No. X mods in not cheating. Ofcousre these mods allow you easiest read arrows but is not cheating. Use C mods... This is cheating :] For me: doesn't matter if song have BPM 300 or 150-300 - Allways C mod is cheating for me.

There are some songs that are really slow and that's why they are hard (DDR Bag, IIDX 5.1.1 etc). I try to not use mods on those. I do use mods on other songs normally though.
