Baton Rouge, LA - Mall of Louisiana - 7/7/07 "Rock This Mall"
On Saturday, July 7th, Gameware will be holding its first Guitar Hero II tournament.
We will have two TVs and Guitar Hero II setups for this tournament. This will help cut down on the amount of time it would take to run the tournament.
The tournament will consist of a technical division and a "freestyle" division. The technical division will be double-elimination, while the "freestyle" division will give each entrant an opportunity to play one song. ~Technical Division~
The technical division will be preceded by a qualifier. They will each play the same song on the same difficulty. This song will be revealed as the tournament date approaches, but the difficulty will be Hard. This will seed the top 32 contestants. Anyone placing lower than the top 32 will be eliminated from the tournament at that point.
The top 32 people will be placed into an NCAA-style bracket. They will play matches consisting of one song. The winner of that song will go on to the next round; the loser will be placed into a losers bracket which will then be run alongside the winners bracket.
The technical division will cost five dollars to enter.
The technical division's rules consist of these simple regulations:
- If you press the start button during play, you will receive a warning, and be required to not press any buttons after unpausing the game for ten seconds.
- Each entrant must play his/her song on the designated difficulty for the round. The first two rounds (in both the winners' and losers' brackets) will be played on Hard, and each round after that will be played on Expert.
- All songs in Guitar Hero II are available to be picked, but no song may be picked twice by the same contestant.
- You may bring and use your own controller, as long as it has not been altered in any way that would affect gameplay. (i.e. filing off the small raised bar next to the yellow button is fine; wiring your controller to work on its own is not.) ~Freestyle Division~
This division is for any person to enter. All entrants will be allowed to play one song on any difficulty. They may place any modifiers on the gameplay that they wish. They may play with any controller that they wish. They may play any song they wish.
Much like DDR/Pump freestyle divisions, creativity is encouraged, and outfits/memorizing a song/rocking out/doing something extraordinary is VERY encouraged.
This division will be free to enter, but donations by the entrants or by other people watching/in the technical division are encouraged, as they will be the prizes for this division. ~Prizes~
The prizes will be distributed as such:
First place in technical will recieve 60% of the entry fees.
Second place in technical will recieve 30% of the entry fees.
Third place in technical will recieve 10% of the entry fees.
First place in freestyle will recieve 60% of the donations.
Second place in freestyle will recieve 30% of the donations.
Third place in freestyle will recieve 10% of the donations.
If donations include things other than money, they will be selected in terms of how the player ranked. For instance, if there is a copy of The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening donated, the first place contestant will have the option of taking 60% of the donations, or the game. ~Final~
Thank you very much for reading this, and I hope to see you all at this tournament.
