The main thing that everyone said was that they didn't want FB mentioned directly so I changed that. I added some more information about other boards and I will add the history latter.

Why the 12 foot tall monster with no hands had a fire ring that fits everyone from you to your grandma will still be mystery to man.

Bemanistyle.com -Museum-
Alot of people ask me "How did you guys get started" or other mundane questions along the lines of that. I got into a long explanation and then usually finding myself kicking myself in the ass for not just making a page explaining what brought this place into a reality. So here you go, I'm gonna go step by step into how this place started as well as post little screen shots of layouts that I've made in the past for different "versions" of the site.
Reo & djp
So we'll start with how Malcolm and I met. It was like, 3 1/2 years ago at least at Otakon in Baltimore, Maryland. We met through a mutual friend of ours, Lynn 'Enigmaopoeia' Brown. She at the time ran the only english Pop'n Music fanpage, of which Malcolm and I were members (along with like 6 other people). At the time, I was running drop0ut.com, a DDR fanpage for the midwest and east coast. So I went promoting that and running the DDR tournament. Running the tournament eventually led to Malcolm, Myself and a group fo friends going to the pier in Baltimore to get food, and us all heading back to my hotel room to hang out. I'm not sure exactly when, but most everyone left while malcolm and I spent a good hour or so playing Pop'n Music 3 on a playstation controller. We didn't talk for some time afterwards. Until...
TGL, DDRSpot, and Drop0ut.com
Around the time that DDR MAX 2 came out, other than ddrfreak, TGL was the big site online for media. Drop0ut was somewhere in the mix, hosting the location test mp3s for 7th mix along with game versions when they came out. Around this time Malcolm and I got back in contact with each other. I would always ask him to help me out but his ties were pretty strong with TGL so he declined, but we still continued to share media with one another. At one point (after the MWS2) I had got the idea to make a massive bemani webpage, but I didn't wanna do it on my own so I started talking to Mike Ngo and Brandon Tomyoy of ddrspot.com and Katy 'Jetgirl' Watts of TGL and Malcolm about this project. Malcolm and I were all over it, but Katy, Mike and Bran were less enthusiastic of starting all over and declined. After throwing the idea around a little bit, I came up with the name "Bemanistyle" while in a chat conversation with Malcolm and my, at the time, girlfriend Patty 'Koneko' Chan. My friend Derek let me register the domain with his credit card and that was when it started basically.
Keith & DDRSTL
Ok, so some people are wondering where Keith comes into play in this whole elaborate story, well that actually stems back to the Drop0ut.com days. Drop0ut was originally started as a team site for myself and some friends in Cleveland Ohio, and at some point my friend Jacob 'Yugufu' Rigo (who I had know for like 8 years) and I started the domain for that and just a personal page of sorts. At some point I got tired of the team idea and went on to try and make it a massive page for the east coast, much like how Bemani X, DDRSpot and DDRFreak were for the west coast at the time. This led me to meet David Praster from St. Louis, MO. He's been a friend of mine since the beginning of the site and actually led me to meet keith at one point when drop0ut had lost it's server. He was hosting us along with ddrstl because we had become a larger site for the Great Lakes area of the country. When we decided to change over from drop0ut to Bemanistyle he was all for it and became our official php coder and server administrator. 2 servers and serveral coding jobs later, he's still here helping build the foundations of the site and playing a big role in it's existance.
BemaniSims Database
Keith got the idea for BemaniSims when Bemanistyle 4th ReMIX went online about a year/year and a half ago. He borrowed from the 4th ReMIX layout and had assigned me as an admin to help out on my free time. At the beginning of the summer last year there was a BIG server crash which put DDRSTL, Bemanistyle and BemaniSims out of commision for about a month. Some of you may remember it because it lead to us opening Bemanistyle 5.0 with the thanks of John 'BemaniRuler' Schlemmer. When we opened back up I had suggested to keith that we combine the 2 sites since we were both admins, it was on the same server, and it would've saved less time on the development of everything. So we did and added the options for more than just DDR Sims, eventually leading Bemanistyle to become one of the biggest simfile sites online because of our simfile staff who busted ass to keep the place in order and of good quality.
IIDXStyle.net, Ver2 & Moondabor
2 days after Bemanistyle originally opened, IIDXStyle.net was opened. This was at the time when IIDX 8th style was coming out. And initially it was sort of a rivarly to see who would get more media from the game for thier site. IIDXStyle offered tons of IIDX media (videos, overlays and so on) most of which is available here now, and was very popular with the IIDX community during it's short run. After a little while Ver2 approached me about making a new layout for the site after some problems he was having with thier former designer. I started talking to Moondabor and Ver2 more often and eventually made the IIDX 8th Style layout featured on IIDX Style until it's closing. I helped with the site and was enthusiastic about it and Bemanistyle, bit after a week or 2 Moondabor brought up that there truly was no reason for both sites to be open, since they focused on the same things and shared staff, along with the fact that bemanistyle had a broader appeal due to our DDR Coverage and coverage of the other games. So we bid IIDXStyle a fond farewell with an image I made featuring the lyrics to 'Blame' from IIDX 8th and an image of Tran in the rain.
Bemanistyle (dot) com Sixpointzero
Shortly before the "Free Mwerp" incident planning had gone into the development of what we planned to be the best, most interactive bemanistyle version yet. 6.0. We shyed away from the flash banner that was on the original bemanistyle, and I developed a layout that played along with the forums, while the staff all started to focus on the coding of the site. And here we stand now, opening sections slowly but surely. Tweaking the token system to work for everyone, and offering the same quality and media we always have.
Look Into The Past
Here are all of the past projects that have held relavence to bemanistyle over the past 2 years along with a short description. If anything new is found, we'll be sure to post it.
Bemanistyle.com 2.0
The 2nd layout we ever had actually gone through a couple of revisions before we changed it up. As new games would come out the banner at the top as well as the features would rotate. Release highlights at the time of this layout were the Pop'n Music 8 AC coverage, Guitar Freaks 8th Mix & Drummania 7th Mix coverage, Beatmania IIDX 8th Style AC, Beatmania IIDX 6th Style CS and Beatmania The Final. This is still one of my favorite layouts as it was themed from Pop'n Music 8's option select screen. This has also since been the only COMPLETE layout for Bemanistyle featuring Machine Locations, Full Game info and an up to date staff list.
Bemanistyle.com 3.0 -Pushing The Limit-
This was our first frames based layout. It had a news ticker underneath the banners (which rotated everytime you would refresh the page) and a php generated news script (which is why the screen has a Not Found in the main window). We carried most of the features from the previous layout over, added Song and Site Of The Week, and started game info over from scratch. No major releases came out when this layout was premiered so it isn't regarded in history as much. It was also somewhat of a half assed layout, so it still never was anything special.
Bemanistyle.com 4.0 -Cyber.Mind.Fascination-
This layout was full of fiascos and great stories. The 2 most notable being the release of DDR Extreme in arcades, which eventually pushed us from being a small somewhat well known site to having DDRFreak status overnight. Being the only site featuring DWIs, Background and Mp3s until we teamed up with DDRUK helped us out tremendously, but was the first time we had seen problems with "leechers" on the site. The 2nd "fiasco" was the IDRM review of several online sites from which were rated a 3/10 because we had told them to stop advertising on the forums. In a biased review they had failed to review us on any of the things the other sites were reviewed on (Information, resources and the like) and were instead rated on our forum user's attitudes and the Parapara image that loaded for them thanks to the random banner script we had up.
Bemanistyle.com 5.0 -Next Generation Bemani Coverage-
At a time where I had VERY little motivation, I was pushed to make a new layout for the site due to a server crash. This is what resulted and was (thankfully) never used thanks to the following layout made by John 'Bemaniruler' Schlemmer. This is the 1st time this layout has ever been seen online by anyone.
//Bemanistyle.com 5.0:
Easily the best looking layout, but also the most troublesome for us. This was the bottom of the line for us info wise due to my lack of motivation and real live distractions, but it was also the livliest for us forum wise and so on due to the sims database. We had alot of people leave due to the flash banner and menu we featured (which were eventually replaced with what you see to the left in the .59 layout) and we also saw the uprising of our users during the "Free Mwerp" trials. Big news on this site included Pop'n Music 9, Pop'n Music 10, IIDX 9th Style and several home releases.
IIDXStyle.com Version 4.0 -Break The Future-
The layout that evetually lead to Bemanistyle & IIDXStyle's merger. Designed shortly after 8th Style made it's way to AI, this layout featured the most complete information, all of the features of past layouts, and tons of rollover images.

I didn't do it at first because I have never read the History article before.

The main page at its most current news post.Bemanistyle is a website that deals with rhythm video games, especially those in Konami's bemani series. It covers the games Dance Dance Revolution, Beatmania, Pop'n Music, Guitar Freaks, DrumMania, Karaoke Revolution, In the Groove, Neon FM: Dance Radio, Pump It Up, Guitar Hero, O2Jam, and others. It also covers simulations for some of the games, mainly hosting simfiles for the Dance Dance Revolution computer simulation game, stepmania.
The most current version of Bemanistyle is version 7.0. The 7.0 site had been in development stages for over a year, but went live on Saturday, June 17, 2006.
The rest of the forum has basic discussion of other games, TV and movies, and a market place for selling peripherals and other merchandise related to the many game series of bemani. It also has a board to discuss many topics that would be more mature for the rest of the board. These places are very popular forum regulars.
There is a section that that is about discussion for the small bemani community round the world. There is a section for North America and then sub sections for California, Canada, Mid Atlantic, Midwest, New England, Pacific Northwest, South, Southeast, and the Southwest. There is also boards for Asia, Japan, Europe, mid and South America, and Oceania.
The website also has an imageboard. It contains sections for fanart for Dance Dance Revolution, Beatmania, Guitar Freaks/DrumMania, and Pop'n music as well as an adult board.
The site also hosts an IRC server, located at irc.bemanistyle.com (If you have an IRC program installed, clicking on the previous link may automatically connect you to the server). The primary channels are #bemanistyle, #forumboredom, and #idlerpg. (Clicking those links will connect you to the server and auto-join you to the channels.)
Trivia
On April 1st, 2004, there was information that Dance Dance Revolution Extreme 2 was being released but then turned out to be an April Fools day Joke. There is a real Dance Dance Revolution Extreme 2 but it was released a year later. | |
