Default Circuit City USA Going Out Of Business

Circuit City Closing For Good - Thank You For All Your Business

Circuit City to begin closing all remaining US retail stores tomorrow, Saturday Jan 18th. It's expected to take until March for the stores to liquidate their remaining inventory.

All merchandise will be on clearance starting tomorrow. So if anyone is interested in picking up cheap electronics, it'd be a good opportunity to do so.

(For those of you in Canada, this doesn't affect you. Circuit City remains open in Canada)

They're going to up the prices on everything so that a "discount" might still end up being more than it would be at Best Buy

Fuck Circuit City

I'm not surprised by this at all...Circuit City has been circling the drain for several years now. They just couldn't keep up with their competition.

Every time I went in a circuit city store to buy something, I would leave with nothing. Prices at those stores are REALLY high. Plus I heard they never would liquidate anything they had, which is a reason they filed bankruptcy before going out of business.

The ones near me already closed. I was able to score some pretty good deals, actually:

Fallout 3, Collectors Edition - $30
Futurama Seasons 2&4 - $25
Apollo Justice Ace Attorney - $10

Good riddance all the same. I was delighted to be one of the thousands of vultures picking at its corpse.

It's not necessarily that they set their prices high, it's that their sales sucked or would be slow to update any manufacturer price drops. Best Buy can afford to put a higher discount on one item, but you may want to buy another item while you're there which is not on sale (for convenience sake).

And they already attempted to liquidate some of their assets back in December (they closed a crapload of stores when they filed for bankruptcy protection, but transferred a lot of profitable products out to other stores), the issue though was that they couldn't find a buyer. No surprise really. Bad for the economy though.

the circuit city near me is literally right next to the best buy (smart choice guys rofl) I'm totally not surprised they're going out of business, because we NEVER bought anything at CC. the better deal was always right next door.

Same. At least Best Buy has their Monster-brand Monster HDMI cables for a dollar less than CC.

There's a Circuit City across the street from a Best Buy where I live. My brother apparently hated working at Circuit City so much that he didn't even quit; he just stopped showing up until they terminated him.

Best Buy is just as shitty to work for. I worked for both companies. The only perk about working for BBY was that the discount was incredible.

Unfortunately I have the opposite experience, at least with the one item I've ever bought from Circuit City.

Back in the fall of 06 I bought a Sony Cybershot W50 with a Pro DUO 1GB card. It cost me barely over $200. Good deal at that time for a store purchase.

But I guess since that's all I've ever bought from them that says something about prices. lol

Can't remember being in a Circuit City (I might have a few times), mostly because there was never any around where I live. I preferred Best Buy. I'll have to see what sales CC is having.
