Marketplace Rating: 3 | Concussions....(yeah, they suck) Yeah...so I had one yesterday.
I was at my local skatepark riding my BMX and I had landed akward trying a 180 over the hip...lets just say, falling on your head with no helmet (Kids wear you helmets, I've learn my lesson but anyways) ended my head and knocked me out cold. I was woken up by paramedics and I couldn't remember my entire morning (I'm talking about getting up, I don;t even know if I had breakfast and driving there)...
My motor skills are kinda fucked (Like me taking forever to write and type), I'm finding that I'm repeading myself while talking to others....
Oh yeah, and I'm throwing up once in a while (because my head hurts soooo freakin much). I'm getting x rays today and a follow up on yesterdays trip to the ER today.
So then I heard (from the doc) that this could last for up to 3 days? I can't handle it now, and it's only a day an a bit. I have not slept in god knows how long and this throbbing in my head needs to freakin stop...
So what do I have to look forward to (people who have had this happen before?)

If a patient receives a second blow days or weeks after a concussion, before concussion symptoms have gone away, they are at risk of developing Second Impact Syndrome (SIS) or recurrent traumatic brain injury. In this rare condition, the brain swells dangerously after a minor blow.
| What Mexicans said is probably not true- an old wives tale or something but rest assured you shouldn't have to worry about going into a coma if you fall asleep. Just make sure you don't do anything that puts you in danger of hitting your head again for a little while, until the concussion symptoms go away. Hopefully your concussion clears up in the expected time.

I skate, I know my limit. I don't exceed it by leaps and bounds on purpose.
And on the subject of concussions, there is this kid at my school who got one on Friday, and he can't remember anyone from school.

Don't worry, not much is going to happen. Thigns will get harder to remember and you will blank out every once and a while. Example: You'll be watching tv, see a commercial, and right after it ends, you will have no idea what you just saw.
Sucks, but yea. Try not to hurt your head anymore. Things start to REALLY SUCK when you have repeated head injuries. =[
EDIT: Oh yea, to get better, you should really push your limits. You're going to fall and get hurt. Oh well, that's part of any sport. I haven't worn a helmet. Ever. Even when I was riding trails and dirt jumps, I still wore no helmet. Though I should as often as I crash. Maybe if I stop riding flatland and go to street ill try a helmet or something, but I doubt it, lol.

Marketplace Rating: 3 | So I wnet for my follow up. I still have minor swelling and still have the pounding headachs but I should be getting better. They didn't find any fractures in my skull and I should be better in a week or so. I have to go again next week sometime.
But this morning was trippy as well. I had left my house with my cell, only to be driving and thinking that I had left it at home. Then when I was at work. I had noticed that it was infact in my pocket.
for now on, I'm going to leave my helmet in my trunk so that I can never forget it while driving to parks or spots...

And that's what happened to another kid I know.

Marketplace Rating: 3 | The fall asleep=coma thing is total nonsense. Minor concussions don't really lead to comas, boys, the brain isn't traumatized enough for it to go into a state like that. With more severe brain injuries you can have coma concerns, but that's not going to happen from a fall like that. Car accidents maybe, but not skate park falls.
I've never had one myself (very close though from a horseback riding accident) but my brother has had several, and so have his soccer teammates. Got to hear my dad calm down the parents on the field every time with his doctor speech. Concussions really aren't that huge of a deal most of the time.

And in most cases we are, its pretty impressive what we can put ourselves through before you actually do any major, major damage.
