This Saturday (March 28,2009) will be the day for Earth Hour 2009. It is a time where people switch their lights off for exactly one hour. It is an event that started during Earth Hour 2007 where millions of people in Sydney, Australia switched-off their lights for one hour. Ever since then, the even became global with Earth Hour 2008 starting with the city of San Francisco, USA then spreading to other cities. This time for Earth Hour 2009, more cities and regions will be enjoying and thus more people will do the same to make this year's Earth Hour even better.
Now again, I am obviously not an environmentalist or conservationist (as I despite Greenpeace quite often).........but this is not about whether you believe in global warming or not (I certainly don't) or even climate change for one. It's also definitely not about beliefs or ideology, if you believe in religion or not or what social or political affiliation you may or may not belong to. Heck, this is not something that involves the boundaries of race, ethnicity, nationality, culture or history but this is about doing something for a change.
I guess all I'm saying is: If there was just one thing that all of us human beings could possible do even for just a moment, then that alone would make a huge difference in bringing us even closer together. Forget about self interests. Instead, even for just this moment in time, why not do it? Through that one simple act comes something fruitful when everyone does the same.........and that alone shows us even for that shortest moment, we call be a part of it.
Again, I am only here to inform (not to enforce) but as a fellow citizen of this planet and as a human being, I humbly encourage each and everyone to join millions worldwide just for this very moment. Out of the approximately 8760 hours available in a given year (365*24), won't it be too much to ask to give up just one single hour of it??? That's all we ask.
So again, you may not agree or disagree with it (or with anything).....but if you can, then please do join us for this night that only happens once a year. In this case, it doesn't matter if you are different in any way from the rest or if you think differently or even do things differently. Differences here do not matter as all that matters is we are a part of HUMANITY and if there is one thing that we as humans could do together, this would be the perfect chance to do so. Indeed, there is nothing more spectacular than for HUMANITY to be united in one mind, heart and spirit in pursuit of being even more united than ever before.
Join us and be a part of history by joining HUMANITY in its finest HOUR.
Again, a pleasant day to you all.....

I sure know that I'll be joining in on this. Anything to save my folks a few bucks on the electric bill.

Like play with flashlights. And touch strangers. Or you can just go to a bar somewhere, they don't shut their lights off.
Good bars don't have that many lights on to begin with, though.

Also I'd hate to have to drive into town not knowing about this because I would assume that the city's on blackout under siege.

Anyways, just feels like another 'go green' effort that I'll ignore. I didn't even hear about it until I read this thread. I'll probably be busy on the PS3 or GCN anyways.

As I've said in my first post in the thread, it is all voluntary (though we supporters of it still oblige/encourage others to do so). As "Eight" said, if it is too much for you, then you can just turn off the lights while some of the other electrical devices are still on (i.e. like a partial shut down or something).
Anyways, that's all for now I guess (oh and for people in other countries/regions where the time is not yet at 8:30 PM, do be sure not to miss this special once-in-a-year event)

@all
With that said, for those who took part in supporting it, I would like to thank you for doing so as you did your part in making sure that this year's Earth Hour would be a success. In one way or another, it showed to you and everyone else that you are all a part of something greater that brought each and everyone of you together no matter how distant you may be from each other or as to how different you are. Yet in the end, for that one night, we all did something as one with ourselves and with others worldwide and we didn't have any regrets or remorse for doing what we did that night.
And for those who weren't able to participate, again, there will be another one next year so be sure not to miss that one. We are encouraging as many people as we can to join so please, if you do feel like doing something small, then join us for next year and we can make it even bigger.
Again, thank you very much to all of you
P.S.
Contrary to what some of you may think, I am NOT a spokesperson for World Wildlife Fund/World Wildlife Fund for Nature (WWF). :P
