Don't listen to this man. If you're using WPA2 and have the network broadcast turned off, nobody will ever know you're there, and the smart people who do STILL don't have a brute force for WPA2.

If you're running without security, ENABLE WPA2 NOW! No Security is a huge problem.

If you're running WEP, UPGRADE NOW TO WPA2. WEP is a 30 second crack. Ive done it (educational purposes) on my own hardware.

If You're running WPA, UPGRADE TO WPA2 AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. WPA2 requires a dictionary crack (Brute force). In addition, to work it needs an authentication packet, which are abysmally rare. Still, don't take chances and upgrade soon. If you cant upgrade for a while, do the Right Thing (tm) and give yourself a long, complicated, alphanumeric random password, write it down and tape it to your router. That will provide enough security while you get real security running.

Now for all you DS users, Go pay the 20 dollars and get the USB dongle, and unplug it when you aren't using it. Its that simple.

Also, It appears the law only forbids loli hentai. Not the grown up over 18 variety.

This is why I have so much disdain for FiOS. I cannot trust or endorse a router that recommends WEP over even WPA1.

Also, at present DS homebrew can't work without SSID broadcast.

in many of them that is in fact true but there are also a bunch where they take into account the difference in age between the two parties even in consenting cases

So in essence, this law changes nothing. All it's stating is that if you know someone is viewing child pornography (including the animated kind, in cases where those depicted appear to be underage) you have to report it if they're using your network to access it.

Seeing as actual data monitoring is frowned upon by consumers and extremely difficult to do for the average end user (coffee shop owners don't know shit about network monitoring, before you ubernerds start yammering on about some sort of bullshit protocol) all this is saying is that the House doesn't understand web technology from a practical standpoint.

And unkn0wn, stop jumping to conclusions based on poorly worded summarizations. It's pretty obvious the bill is limited to the kinds of material that are already considered to be illegal.

And if it makes you feel any better, the only person in this country indicted on charges related to lolicon on his computer was ALSO indicted for a fairly extensive collection of real child porn, so at this point it's one of those "combo deal" bits of legislation. If you want to argue the morality of that being in place or the morality of age-separated relationships, take it elsewhere. This is a discussion of porn, don't start talking about "yeah well if a 19 year old wants to go out with and fuck a 17 year old" shit. Because that's a whole different argument than talking about porn, and if you can't separate porn and relationships in your own mind then seek professional help.
