Digg - Livejournal suspends hundreds of accounts

Wow. The storm that's arising from this is just... getting bigger and bigger. It's reaching CNet and Boing Boing and such places. And that WFI group seems really shifty. Any thoughts?

It's not really that that is pissing people off.

It's the way Six Apart is handling the situtation. Despite the fact that they can't get in ANY legal trouble whatsoever, they insisting on deleting the journals and communities. Also, LiveJournal has always had a stance on free speech and that whatever a user wants to post is okay so long as they censor it appropriately (FLock it or whatever) since it's their own content. The only thing that is handled seriously is obvious stuff like death threats, suicide notes and the like.

I mean come on though. Writing stupid fan fictions about Harry Potter and Draco Malfoy illicits a deletion? That's fucking retarded.

I personally find their reaction to the entire situation way too strong. Six Apart just needs to grow some fucking balls and tell these "Warriors of Innocence" people to stick a broken glass bottle up their asses and fuck off.

Well technically it's their website and they can do as they please. The users don't own their journals; six apart does. Users sign an agreement when they create their journals that make it pretty obvious.

Either way, they've already made a news post saying they will take responsibility for what they've done.
